The Chicago Bears may be heading into Week 3 with their quarterback room in rough shape.
After a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings that sent Caleb Williams off the field on a cart with a hamstring injury, the Bears were already bracing for life without their starter against the Philadelphia Eagles. Now Tyson Bagent has landed in concussion protocol, and his status is suddenly up in the air too.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported the latest concern this way: "Bears QB Tyson Bagent is dealing with a concussion and is in the NFL's concussion protocol, sources say," Rapoport reports. "With Caleb Williams likely out with a hamstring injury, Case Keenum could be the starter vs. the Eagles."
Williams is not expected to practice this week as Chicago prepares for its Monday Night Football matchup, making him look likely to miss Week 3. Bagent, meanwhile, is now uncertain as well, and concussion protocol usually keeps a player sidelined for at least a week.
Because the game is on Monday, there is still a small window for Bagent to get cleared in time. But for now, he has joined Williams as a question mark for a home game against a tough Eagles team.
That leaves the Bears potentially turning to Case Keenum, the 38-year-old veteran who has seen plenty over the course of his NFL career. If that happens, Chicago could be leaning on its third-string quarterback in primetime just to stay above .500 in the early part of the season.
