Matt Nagy’s name is back in the mix-and this time, it could mean a return to where it all began.
After being in the conversation for the Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancy-before the team ultimately hired Robert Saleh-Nagy is once again a coaching free agent. And now, the Philadelphia Eagles might be eyeing a reunion with a familiar face as they search for answers on the offensive side of the ball.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Nagy declined to sign a contract extension last offseason, keeping himself open for a potential head coaching opportunity or a new role as a play-caller. That decision could pay off, with Philadelphia emerging as a possible landing spot.
If it happens, this wouldn’t just be another job for Nagy-it would be a full-circle moment. He got his NFL coaching start with the Eagles back in 2008, cutting his teeth as an intern before moving up to offensive quality control coach by 2010. He stayed in that role until 2013, when he followed Andy Reid to Kansas City and began climbing the coaching ladder in earnest.
Now, with the Eagles looking to revamp an offense that sputtered late in the season, Nagy is one of several names under consideration. Jim Bob Cooter and Brian Daboll are also reportedly in the mix, as Philadelphia casts a wide net in search of the right offensive architect to reset their attack.
For Nagy, the opportunity in Philly would come with high expectations-and a chance at redemption. His tenure as head coach of the Chicago Bears didn’t end the way he or the franchise hoped, but around league circles, he’s still viewed as a sharp offensive mind with a knack for quarterback development and creative play design.

If the Eagles do bring him in, it won’t just be about nostalgia. It’ll be about results.
Philadelphia has the pieces-talent at quarterback, a deep receiving corps, and a strong offensive line-but they need someone who can bring it all together. That’s where Nagy could step in.
This would be no small task. The pressure in Philly is always high, and after a disappointing finish to the season, the fanbase is hungry for answers. But if Nagy can help get the offense firing again, it could be just the kind of career reset he’s been waiting for-and a major boost for an Eagles team looking to get back to contender status.
