The Philadelphia Eagles are in the thick of their search for a new offensive coordinator following the departure of Kevin Patullo, who was let go after the team’s early playoff exit. But as the Eagles work through their list of candidates, one name appears to be off the table-not because of a lack of interest, but because of where that candidate seems to be headed.
That candidate is Brian Daboll.
According to league sources, Daboll is widely expected to be in the mix for the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job-a position that may soon be open depending on the direction the organization takes. The Eagles, aware of Daboll’s potential trajectory, are reportedly conducting their search with the understanding that he’s unlikely to be available for a coordinator role in Philadelphia.
Daboll’s connection to Buffalo runs deep. He served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, playing a major role in Josh Allen’s development and helping to build one of the league’s most dynamic offenses during that stretch. His familiarity with the organization and previous success there make him a natural candidate to replace Sean McDermott, should the Bills decide to make a change.
But Buffalo isn’t short on options. The team is expected to interview current OC Joe Brady, who stepped in midseason and helped stabilize the offense. They’re also casting a wide net, with interviews reportedly lined up with Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
If Daboll doesn’t land the Bills job, another landing spot is already taking shape: Tennessee.
Sources indicate that Daboll is a strong candidate to become the Titans’ next offensive coordinator, potentially working with rookie quarterback Cam Ward. Tennessee has already interviewed Daboll for their head coaching role, which ultimately went to Robert Saleh. But that conversation left a strong impression, and the Titans appear to be keeping the door open for him to join the staff in a key offensive role.
There was also speculation that Mike McDaniel could be a fit in Tennessee due to his ties with Saleh. That possibility is now off the board, as the Chargers hired McDaniel to be their new offensive coordinator earlier this week.
Tennessee isn’t putting all its eggs in one basket, either. The Titans also interviewed Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, another familiar face with head coaching experience.
All of this paints a clear picture: Brian Daboll is one of the hottest names on the coaching market right now. Whether it’s as a head coach in Buffalo or an offensive coordinator in Tennessee, he’s going to have options. And that’s why the Eagles-despite having a talented roster and an appealing OC opportunity-are likely moving on to other candidates.
Where Daboll ultimately lands will have ripple effects, not just for the team that gets him, but for the ones that don’t. His offensive mind and leadership experience make him a valuable asset in a league where innovation and quarterback development are at a premium. Keep an eye on this one-it’s going to be one of the more impactful moves of the offseason.
