If there’s a blockbuster move to be made this offseason, you can bet the Eagles will be in the mix. That’s just how Howie Roseman operates. The Philadelphia GM has built a reputation as one of the most aggressive and creative dealmakers in the NFL - and if a star becomes available, he’s rarely far from the conversation.
One name that’s starting to generate some serious buzz in Philly circles? Maxx Crosby.
Yes, that Maxx Crosby - the relentless Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher who’s been terrorizing quarterbacks for years. The idea of him suiting up in midnight green isn’t just a pipe dream. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Eagles are firmly in the mix if the Raiders decide to make Crosby available.
“Big time,” Garafolo said on The Anthony Gargano Show. “I would put the Eagles in the top three, five, whatever [teams] for Maxx Crosby if and when this thing opens up - and I do believe it's going to open up.”
That’s not nothing. When a plugged-in voice like Garafolo says it’s a real possibility, it’s worth paying attention.
Why Crosby Would Be a Game-Changer in Philly
Let’s start with the player himself. Maxx Crosby isn’t just good - he’s elite.
In 110 career games, he’s stacked up 69.5 sacks, 133 tackles for loss, 164 quarterback hits, and 11 forced fumbles. That’s the kind of production you usually only see in Madden.
And those numbers only tell part of the story. Crosby plays with a motor that never quits, and his impact goes beyond the box score.
He’s the kind of edge presence that demands double-teams and still finds ways to wreck plays.
For a Philly defense that struggled to generate consistent pressure late last season, adding Crosby would be a seismic shift. Pair him with a healthy Haason Reddick (assuming he’s still around), and suddenly the Eagles have one of the most dangerous edge duos in the league. That’s the kind of move that changes the calculus in the NFC.
What Would It Cost?
Here’s where things get tricky. Crosby isn’t coming cheap - not in draft capital, and not on the cap sheet.
The Raiders are likely to demand at least two first-round picks to even start the conversation. And while that sounds steep, context matters.
The Eagles typically pick in the 20s, so those first-rounders aren’t exactly top-five premium. If you’re trying to win now - and Philly clearly is - giving up late-round firsts for a proven All-Pro talent could be worth it.
But the salary cap is another puzzle. Crosby is under contract on a deal that reflects his elite production, and fitting that into the Eagles’ books would require some maneuvering.
Roseman has made a career of cap gymnastics, but even for him, this would take some creativity. It might mean parting ways with a veteran or restructuring multiple deals to make room.
The Jaelan Phillips Factor
This all ties into another key storyline: the decision on Jaelan Phillips. The Eagles have to figure out whether to bring back the talented but injury-impacted edge rusher. If they pass on Phillips, it opens the door for a bigger swing - and Crosby would be just that.
Phillips has flashed serious upside when healthy, but Crosby is a known commodity, a five-time Pro Bowler with a resume that speaks for itself. If the Eagles are looking for a sure thing to elevate their defense, Crosby fits the bill.
Is It Worth It?
That’s the million-dollar question. Or, more accurately, the multi-million dollar, multiple-first-round-pick question.
Crosby would instantly upgrade the Eagles’ defense and bring a level of physicality and consistency that Philly fans would absolutely love. But it’s a win-now move, one that sacrifices future assets and cap flexibility for immediate impact.
Still, if you’re the Eagles, and you believe your Super Bowl window is open - and with Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith in their primes, it sure looks like it is - then this is the kind of swing you at least have to consider.
Howie Roseman has never been afraid to go big. If the Raiders open the door, don’t be surprised if he walks right through it - and brings Maxx Crosby with him.
