Eagles Linked to Bold Move That Could Shake Up Jalen Hurts' Future

As questions swirl around Jalen Hurts' future in Philadelphia, a bold suggestion from an NFL insider hints at a high-stakes move that could shake up the Eagles' quarterback room.

Is Jalen Hurts at a Crossroads? Eagles Face Pivotal Offseason Decision at Quarterback

Jalen Hurts just wrapped a 2025 season that, on the surface, looked solid. He completed nearly 65% of his passes, threw for over 3,200 yards, and posted a career-best 25 touchdown passes to just six interceptions.

Add in eight rushing scores, and you're talking about a dual-threat quarterback who continues to be a major weapon in the red zone. But for all the numbers that suggest growth, there’s a lingering question in Philadelphia: is Hurts still the long-term answer under center?

That question isn’t coming out of nowhere. Despite the stat line, Hurts had stretches-particularly in second halves of games-where he simply vanished.

In two separate contests, he didn’t complete a single pass after halftime. For a quarterback who’s already led his team to two Super Bowl appearances and one Lombardi Trophy, that kind of inconsistency is hard to ignore.

And now, the Eagles are entering an offseason filled with uncertainty. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently floated the possibility of Philadelphia drafting a quarterback on Day 2 of the NFL Draft-just as they did with Hurts back in 2020.

The idea? Not necessarily to replace Hurts outright, but to apply a little pressure.

A reminder that the NFL is a "what have you done for me lately" league, and even franchise quarterbacks aren’t immune to internal competition.

The scenario draws obvious parallels to the Carson Wentz situation. Wentz had just signed a massive extension when the Eagles drafted Hurts in the second round.

Fast forward a few months, and Hurts was the starter. Could history repeat itself-with Hurts on the other side of the equation this time?

Well, it’s not exactly apples to apples.

Hurts has accomplished far more than Wentz ever did in an Eagles uniform. He’s won six playoff games, been to two Super Bowls, and brought home a championship.

Wentz, talented as he was, never played in a playoff win for Philly-Nick Foles carried that load during the Eagles’ 2017 title run. Wentz also battled injuries and struggled to maintain consistency, which ultimately opened the door for Hurts in the first place.

So while the idea of drafting a quarterback might stir up déjà vu, the context is very different. Hurts has proven he can lead a team deep into the postseason.

He’s won 69% of his starts. That’s not just good-it’s elite company.

Still, the Eagles have never shied away from quarterback drama. GM Howie Roseman has famously called Philadelphia a “quarterback factory,” and he’s backed that up with bold moves at the position. So if the Eagles do pull the trigger on a quarterback in the first or second round this April, it won’t be entirely out of character.

But make no mistake: doing so would turn up the heat in Philly. Drafting a QB that early sends a message-not just to Hurts, but to the entire locker room.

It says the Eagles are at least thinking about life beyond their current starter. Whether that’s a motivational tactic or the beginning of a succession plan remains to be seen.

For now, Hurts remains the guy. He’s earned that.

But 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year. If he bounces back with a strong, consistent campaign, the Eagles’ faith in him will be justified.

If not, the whispers about a changing of the guard will only get louder.

One thing’s certain: all eyes will be on the Eagles’ draft board this spring-and on Jalen Hurts come September.
