Eagles Launch OC Search After Sudden Exit Shakes Coaching Staff

As the Eagles retool their coaching staff after Kevin Patullos departure, a wide-ranging offensive coordinator search highlights the teams strategic pivot this offseason.

Eagles Kick Off Eventful Offseason with OC Search, Coaching Moves, and Roster Reshaping

PHILADELPHIA - The Eagles are officially in offseason mode, and it’s already shaping up to be a pivotal stretch for the franchise. With the departure of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo after just one season, the front office is deep into a search for his replacement - and that’s just one piece of a much larger puzzle as Philadelphia looks to retool both its coaching staff and roster ahead of 2026.

OC Search in Full Swing

Let’s start with the headline: the Eagles are casting a wide net in their search for a new offensive coordinator. While Patullo could potentially return in a different capacity, his one-year run as OC is over, and the team is moving forward.

Among the names in the mix is Frank Smith, who recently wrapped up a four-year stint as the Dolphins’ offensive coordinator. Smith has a strong offensive résumé, including time as the Chargers’ run-game coordinator and tight ends coach for both the Bears and Raiders. He also overlapped with current Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in Miami, which could help with continuity and collaboration.

Matt Nagy is another familiar face who’s interviewed for the job. A former University of Delaware quarterback and Eagles coaching intern back in 2009, Nagy has deep ties to the organization.

He rose through the ranks under Andy Reid in Kansas City, served as OC during Patrick Mahomes’ rookie season, and later became the Bears’ head coach. He returned to KC in 2022 and helped the Chiefs to multiple Super Bowl titles.

His experience and history with the Eagles make him an intriguing candidate.

The Eagles also reached out to Declan Doyle, the 29-year-old OC of the Chicago Bears. Despite not calling plays in Chicago, Doyle helped guide rookie QB Caleb Williams to a playoff berth in his first season. A move to Philly would give him full play-calling duties - a significant step up - and he brings experience from working under Sean Payton in both Denver and New Orleans.

Another name that surfaced was Bobby Slowik, the Dolphins’ senior passing game coordinator. Slowik was once viewed as a rising star after helping C.J.

Stroud win Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023, but a tough 2024 season led to his firing in Houston. He landed in Miami under Mike McDaniel, but he’s now staying put - the Dolphins promoted him to OC.

Josh Grizzard, the former Buccaneers OC, also interviewed. He stepped into the coordinator role in Tampa after serving as the passing game coordinator, but injuries to key offensive weapons like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Bucky Irving made for a rocky season.

Jim Bob Cooter is another familiar name. The Eagles requested to speak with the Colts OC, who was a consultant in Philly during Nick Sirianni’s first year as head coach.

Cooter doesn’t call plays in Indianapolis, so the Eagles may not need permission to bring him in for an interview. His ties to Doug Pederson and Shane Steichen - both former Eagles coaches - only deepen the connections.

While the Eagles were eyeing other high-profile candidates, Mike McDaniel is off the board. The former Dolphins head coach is heading to the Chargers as their new offensive coordinator. Meanwhile, Brian Daboll is reportedly not interested in the Eagles’ OC job, instead setting his sights on head coaching opportunities in Buffalo or a coordinator role in Tennessee under Robert Saleh.

Defensive Staff Shuffle: Kasper Steps Up, Parker Heads to Dallas

The Eagles are also shaking things up on the defensive side. With Christian Parker leaving to become the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, the team is promoting Joe Kasper to fill the defensive backs coach role. Kasper, who just wrapped up his second season as safeties coach and fourth overall with the team, followed Fangio from Miami and has earned the trust of the staff.

Parker, meanwhile, played a massive role in the development of young corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, both 2024 draft picks who blossomed into All-Pro talents by their second season. His departure to division rival Dallas adds a little extra spice to the NFC East rivalry, especially considering the Cowboys are coming off a historically bad defensive season - allowing 511 points, the most in franchise history.

Special Teams Stability

While other parts of the staff are in flux, the Eagles are keeping continuity on special teams. Michael Clay will return as coordinator after reportedly interviewing with the Buccaneers. Clay has held the role since 2021 and remains a steady hand in that phase of the game.

Futures Contracts: Building for Depth

Behind the scenes, the Eagles have also been busy rounding out their offseason roster. They signed 12 players to futures contracts - a mix of practice squad holdovers and fresh faces from around the league.

Among them are linebacker Jose Ramirez, safety Andre Sam, tight end EJ Jenkins, and former Titans tackle John Ojukwu. The group also includes running back Carson Steele, wide receiver Danny Gray, and former Buccaneers wideout Quez Watkins, who’s back for another shot in Philly.

These signings won’t make headlines today, but they’re the kind of depth moves that can pay off when injuries hit or special teams roles open up.

What’s Next?

With the OC search ongoing and a few key coaching positions still unfilled, the Eagles are far from done reshaping their staff. The decisions made in the coming weeks will go a long way in determining how this team bounces back in 2026. From finding the right offensive leader to replacing a top defensive assistant, the Eagles are facing a critical offseason - one that could define the next chapter of the Sirianni era.

Stay tuned. The Birds are just getting started.
