The offseason buzz around the Philadelphia Eagles is all about the potential trade of A.J. Brown.
While a split seems inevitable, the Eagles aren't rushing into anything. NFL insider Adam Schefter recently shared his thoughts on 97.5 The Fanatic, speculating on when Brown might be on the move.
The Eagles are armed with a hefty 11 or 12 picks in this year's NFL Draft. But here's the kicker: they might not even need all those picks to bolster their roster.
Schefter suggests that the Eagles are eyeing future drafts, particularly 2027 and 2028, as those could be more valuable. They've already got plenty of ammo for the upcoming draft, so spreading out their picks into stronger drafts could be the smarter play.
From a strategic standpoint, trading Brown after the draft makes a lot of sense. With a stockpile of picks already in hand, Eagles GM Howie Roseman is known for his love of accumulating draft capital, often using it for savvy draft day trades.
Financially, waiting until after June 1 to trade Brown could be a game-changer. The Eagles would see their dead cap hit slashed from $40 million, and they’d save $7 million against the cap. Roseman, no stranger to the waiting game, seems poised to hold out for the right deal, especially after seeing the returns from recent trades involving stars like DJ Moore and Jaylen Waddle.
In essence, while the Eagles are likely to seek first- and second-round picks for Brown, patience might just be their best strategy. Unless an irresistible offer comes knocking before June 1, expect the Eagles to bide their time and aim for maximum value.
