Eagles Hire Former Packers Coach for Key Offensive Role

The Eagles are betting on fresh perspective and quarterback expertise as they hand the offensive reins to rising coach Sean Mannion.

The Philadelphia Eagles have found their new offensive coordinator, tapping into the Green Bay Packers’ coaching pipeline by hiring quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion to take over play-calling duties for the 2026 season.

Mannion, 33, steps into the role after two seasons in Green Bay, where he quickly climbed the coaching ladder. In 2025, he served as the Packers’ quarterbacks coach, helping guide Jordan Love to one of the most efficient seasons among NFL passers. According to EPA/play metrics, Love finished second among 30 qualifying quarterbacks-a testament not only to the quarterback’s growth, but to the coaching support behind him.

While Mannion didn’t call plays in Green Bay, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear that Mannion’s football IQ and vision for offensive football stood out during the interview process. “It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league,” Sirianni said in a statement. “I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach.”

Mannion’s NFL journey is a unique one. Drafted in the third round in 2015 by the then-St.

Louis Rams, he spent nearly a decade in the league as a backup quarterback, appearing in 14 games and throwing for 573 yards. His time as a player gave him a front-row seat to some of the league’s most respected offensive minds.

He played under Sean McVay, Kevin Stefanski, and Kevin O’Connell-all of whom are known for their offensive innovation. That experience, Sirianni noted, gives Mannion a “wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to our team moving forward.”

Philadelphia’s OC job opened up after the team parted ways with Kevin Patullo following a disappointing wild-card round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles’ offense, which had been a juggernaut during their Super Bowl LIX run, regressed in 2025-finishing 22nd in success rate and 23rd in total yards. That drop-off prompted a thorough search for a new offensive leader, with names like Brian Daboll, Jim Bob Cooter, and Josh Grizzard reportedly in the mix before the team ultimately zeroed in on Mannion.

During his time in Green Bay, Mannion was part of a staff that helped turn the Packers into one of the league’s most efficient offensive units. In the two seasons since he joined, Green Bay ranked fourth in EPA/play and seventh in offensive touchdowns-impressive numbers that suggest Mannion has been learning in the right environment.

Now, he gets his shot to lead an offense of his own-and in Philadelphia, the expectations are high. With a talented roster and a fan base hungry for another deep postseason run, Mannion will be tasked with revitalizing a unit that lost its edge in 2025. It’s a big step for a young coach, but if his track record of growth and the trust placed in him by Sirianni are any indication, the Eagles believe they’ve found someone who can bring fresh energy-and results-to their offense.
