The Eagles are making moves to reshape their offense, and the latest addition to Nick Sirianni’s staff signals a continued shift in that direction. Philadelphia has hired former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard as their new pass game coordinator, adding another branch from the Sean McVay-Kyle Shanahan coaching tree to the mix.
Grizzard, who interviewed twice for the Eagles' offensive coordinator job, didn’t land that role - it ultimately went to former Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion. But bringing Grizzard aboard in a key support role shows the Eagles are serious about evolving their offensive identity. With both Mannion and Grizzard rooted in the McVay/Shanahan system, the Eagles are clearly leaning into a more modern, motion-heavy, quarterback-friendly approach that’s become the gold standard in today’s NFL.
At just 35 years old, Grizzard has already worked with some of the league’s most respected offensive minds. He spent two seasons under Mike McDaniel with the Dolphins and then joined Liam Cohen’s staff in Tampa Bay for the 2024 season. That kind of exposure to innovative play design and adaptable schemes is exactly what Philadelphia seems to be targeting.
Now, it’s fair to point out that Grizzard’s lone season as an offensive coordinator didn’t go as planned. The Buccaneers’ offense struggled in 2025, finishing 21st in both total offense and rushing, and 20th in passing.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield regressed, and the unit never found a consistent rhythm. That ultimately led to Grizzard being let go after just one year at the helm.
But context matters. The Eagles aren’t asking Grizzard to run the whole show.
As pass game coordinator, he’ll be in a more focused role - one that plays to his strengths as a designer of route concepts and passing structure. And with Jalen Hurts at quarterback, there’s a real opportunity here for Grizzard to help unlock more layers in the Eagles’ aerial attack.
This hire isn’t about patching holes - it’s about building something new. With Mannion steering the offense and Grizzard helping to shape the passing game, Philadelphia is assembling a staff that’s forward-thinking and aligned in philosophy. The question now is how quickly those ideas can translate to the field - and whether a more Shanahan-style offense can help Hurts and the Eagles take the next step.
