Eagles Head Into London Severely Shorthanded Before Jaguars Kickoff

Despite mounting injuries, including Jonathan Greenard's absence for the third time, the Eagles brace for a tough Week 5 clash against the Jaguars.

The Eagles are heading into their Week 5 London game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a shorthanded lineup, and Jonathan Greenard is among the biggest names sitting out.

Greenard has been dealing with an ankle injury he picked up in the Eagles’ Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He did not take part in the team’s final practice of the week, and that left his status in doubt before the club made it official 90 minutes before kickoff.

He’ll miss his third game of the season.

The full inactive list the Eagles announced was Hollywood Brown, WR; Marcus Epps, S; DeVonta Smith, WR; Saquon Barkley, RB; Jonathan Greenard, EDGE; and Drew Kendall, C.

Greenard has now sat out three times this year after appearing in the last two games, and his availability is turning into a real issue. Philadelphia had been hoping he’d be back after working out on the field, but that comeback didn’t materialize, and the questions around the trade only keep growing.

The hit to the offense is even wider beyond Greenard. Barkley and Smith are both out, which strips away two of the Eagles’ key skill-position pieces, while Brown’s absence thins the wide receiver group even more.

That leaves Philadelphia leaning on Will Shipley at running back, with Darius Cooper moving into the starting lineup. Tank Bigsby is on IR, so Shipley gets the start with Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele behind him.

Up front, the Eagles are also dealing with more lineup churn. Drew Kendall won’t go, and Jake Majors is expected to step in after being elevated from the practice squad. If that happens, Majors will be the third center starter for Philadelphia this season.

There are still a couple of injury situations worth watching. Jalen Hurts dealt with a calf injury in practice, but he was still a full participant on Friday. Dontayvion Wicks hurt his hamstring on Thursday, though he remains available for Week 5.

In the secondary, Epps is out for a second straight game, which means Michael Carter II will continue in his place. Carter handled his first start well in the Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, so the Eagles should still have some stability there.

Even so, this has the look of Philadelphia’s toughest regular-season test so far. With so many starters missing and backups stepping into major roles, the Eagles are going to have to piece it together and find a way through it.

Nick Saban Sends Strong Message As Pressure Builds On Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts heads into a Week 5 road test in Jacksonville with the Eagles short on the kinds of help a quarterback usually leans on. DaVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley are out, and Hurts has also been navigating a battered offensive line, leaving Philadelphia to ask its quarterback to keep the offense moving through another stretch of uncertainty.

Amid the pressure, former coach Nick Saban offered a reminder of why Hurts has long drawn praise for more than just his play. Saban highlighted Hurts character and resilience, framing the quarterback as someone who has already lived through adversity and responded the right way, a message that lands differently with the Eagles facing another game where the margin for error feels thin. Eagles Head To London With A Problem They Can't Keep Hiding

The Eagles arrive in London with more than a cross-Atlantic trip on their hands. A matchup with the Jaguars now comes against a backdrop of roster strain, with Philadelphia trying to steady itself after a week that has thinned out key parts of the offense and put added pressure on a group that usually sets the tone for everything else.

Philadelphias line already had little margin for error, and the timing of the latest changes only makes the challenge sharper overseas. With Jacksonville carrying a 3-1 record and a strong statistical profile, the betting market is leaning toward the Jaguars, and the specific matchups up front could go a long way toward determining whether the Eagles can keep this from turning into a much bigger early-season problem. Eagles Head Into Jaguars Game With A Lineup Fans Didn't Expect

The Eagles arrived at their matchup with the Jaguars carrying a lineup that looked different from the one fans may have expected, and the changes went beyond the usual game-day shuffle. Jonathan Greenard is officially inactive after dealing with an ankle injury, and the teams offensive line will also look different because of injuries, trades and roster moves that have reshaped the group heading into kickoff.

Philadelphias inactive list also included Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, leaving plenty of notable absences as the Eagles tried to sort through the available pieces. In their place, Jake Majors, Carson Steele, Zach Ertz and John Ojukwu were added to the active roster for the game, underscoring just how much the depth chart has been altered for a matchup that already carried added attention.
