Eagles Head Into Cowboys Showdown With Their Season Already Feeling Fragile

With both the Eagles and Cowboys facing critical injuries and stuck on a losing streak, Week 7's showdown on Monday Night has high stakes for both teams.

It’s Dallas Week again, and the Eagles are walking into Monday Night Football trying to stop the slide before it turns into something uglier. Philadelphia and Dallas both sit at 2-4, both are coming in on two-game losing streaks, and both teams are trying to steady themselves after a rough stretch.

For the Eagles, the biggest issue is obvious: injuries. Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season after a blood clot from his calf injury traveled to his lungs.

The team expects him to make a full recovery, but his absence leaves a massive hole. That’s only part of the picture, though, because Philly has several other key players worth watching as the week unfolds.

Saquon Barkley may be the swing piece here. He has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, and there’s a chance he returns this week.

That would matter in a big way, especially after the Eagles ran for just 57 yards over their last two games without him. Barkley is averaging 5.1 yards per carry this season, and the run game has looked much better with him on the field.

There’s also a long list of other Eagles injuries to monitor. Jalyx Hunt missed Week 6 after hurting his knee and ankle in Week 5, but he could be back against Dallas, though another week or two is still possible.

Landon Dickerson is on IR with a knee injury and has not played since Week 1, though his 21-day practice window opened last week and he could return to start at left guard. Drew Kendall has missed the last two games with a knee injury, but after being active for the Panthers game, this extra week could help him get back at center.

Nolan Smith Jr. is in concussion protocol after getting hurt in the Panthers game, and the extra day before kickoff gives him a decent shot to play. Jordan Davis left that game early with an ankle injury, but he was recently seen at a local Philly event walking fine, which is a good sign heading into the week.

Dallas has its own injury list to sort through as well, even though there is no official report yet. DeMarvion Overshown, Malik Hooker, Dee Winters, KaVontae Turpin, Drew Shelton, and Cobie Durant are all names to keep in mind.

The game is set for Monday, October 26, at 8:15 pm EST on ABC/ESPN, with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Lisa Salters on the call.

On the field, one of the biggest questions is whether Barkley can get back and reignite a ground game that has gone quiet. Another is how Tanner McKee handles his second start of 2026 on Monday Night Football.

In Week 6, McKee was clean with the football, but the offense still sputtered. With one start under his belt now and targets like DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert available, the Eagles are hoping the passing game looks sharper.

Then there’s the matchup in the secondary. The Eagles’ defensive backs are getting a Cowboys passing attack that has been up and down lately, with Dak Prescott throwing four interceptions over his last two games.

Even with that slump, Dallas still leans heavily on the pass, and it remains one of the best passing offenses in the league. Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Riq Woolen will have plenty to handle if Philadelphia wants to slow it down.

Nick Sirianni Just Reignited A Debate Eagles Fans Know Well

Nick Siriannis sideline fire has always been part of the package in Philadelphia, where intensity is often treated as a feature until it starts crossing a line. During the NFLs fall meetings in New York City, the Eagles coach was one of three head coaches fined for conduct toward game officials, a reminder that the league is watching closely when emotions spill over into interactions with referees.

The bigger question around Sirianni is not whether he cares, because everyone around the Eagles knows he does, but how that edge is managed over the long haul. Jeffery Lurie has already spoken publicly about the fine line there, acknowledging that Siriannis passion can become counterproductive if it goes too far with officials, which is exactly why this latest episode has reopened a familiar debate in Philly. Cowboys Bring Extra Rivalry Juice Into Massive Eagles Showdown

The Week 7 meeting between the Cowboys and Eagles already had the feel of one of the most charged games on the NFL calendar, and it only gets a little extra shine with Monday Night Football set for Oct. 26 at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET, with ESPN, ABC and Disney+ carrying the game as Philadelphia and Dallas take another swing at each other in front of a national audience.

Dallas also is bringing its Arctic White Color Rush look back into the spotlight, a uniform combination that has been part of a perfect run so far this season. For the Eagles, the matchup is a straightforward one on the field but a familiar one in every other sense, with the rivalry, the stage and the timing all adding to the sense that this one could feel bigger than an ordinary division game. Cooper DeJeans Sudden Struggles Are Becoming An Eagles Concern

Cooper DeJean has quickly gone from one of the Eagles brighter young defensive pieces to a player the coaching staff is monitoring a little more closely. The second-year defensive back has been dealing with missed tackles this season, and DeJean has acknowledged the issue while saying he is working to clean it up. It is the kind of detail that stands out in a defense built on reliability, especially when a players role can turn small mistakes into bigger gains for the opponent.

Vic Fangio doesnt sound inclined to blame the Eagles recent alignment tweaks for the dip, which narrows the focus to DeJeans own physical state and execution. The defensive coordinator suggested a stinger from the Rams game may be part of what is going on, leaving open the possibility that the problem is more health-related than schematic. For the Eagles, the concern is less about one rough stretch than whether a young defender who has been trusted in key moments can get back to the form that made him such an appealing part of the secondary.
