Week 2 brings the Philadelphia Eagles right back into the spotlight, and the matchup with the Tennessee Titans offers another chance to build on a sharp start.
Philadelphia opened the season 1-0 after edging the Washington Commanders 24-22 in Week 1. Tennessee, meanwhile, is coming off a 23-10 loss to the New York Jets. If the Eagles want to keep the momentum moving in the right direction, a few things have to go their way.
One path to that kind of result starts with Jalen Hurts doing what he did the last time these teams met. In the Eagles’ 35-10 win over the Titans in 2022, Hurts was just shy of 400 passing yards. This time, the expectation is still a big day through the air, with Hurts clearing 300 passing yards and adding more than 50 yards on the ground as well.
The passing game could also feature a breakout performance from Dontayvion Wicks. After flashing with a deep 64-yard catch, Wicks has a chance to become a real problem for Tennessee’s defense.
With DeVonta Smost likely to draw plenty of attention, Wicks is projected to step into the spotlight, lead the Eagles in receiving, and top 100 yards for the first time in his career with Philadelphia. A touchdown would only make the day better.
Hollywood Brown is another name expected to get more involved. Brown did not play in Week 1, but the Eagles are looking to work him into the offense this week.
Sean Mannion is expected to dial up a deep shot that turns into a 50-plus-yard completion. It might be Brown’s only catch, but it could still be the kind of play that opens things up for him later.
On defense, Cooper DeJean is a candidate to answer after a rough stretch in coverage last week. He finished with eight tackles and a quarterback hit in Week 1, but an injury affected him in pass coverage. With another week to recover, DeJean is expected to rebound and intercept Cam Ward.
Jalyx Hunt could also make life miserable for Tennessee’s offense. He racked up seven pressures last week and came close to finishing the job with sacks. Against the Titans, the forecast is even bigger: two sacks and eight pressures in the win.
Special teams gets in on the act too. Elliott has struggled over the last two years, but this matchup is supposed to look more like the earlier part of his Eagles career. The prediction has him drilling two long-distance field goals, the kind of performance that would go a long way toward restoring confidence.
And finally, Mitchell is expected to snap a regular-season interception drought that has lasted more than two years. He has four career interceptions in the postseason, but none in the regular season during that stretch. With the Titans on the schedule, this feels like the moment that changes.
