The Eagles’ injury list explains plenty about Monday night’s loss to the Cowboys, but it doesn’t explain everything.
Philadelphia was already shorthanded going in, and the absences piled up fast: Jalen Hurts, Devonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks all sat out. Saquon Barkley did play, though he was limited after tweaking his back while trying to push through a hamstring injury.
Up front, the offensive line is also trying to adjust after the recently retired Lane Johnson and traded Cam Jurgens left holes to fill. Put it all together, and there was enough there to excuse a rough night.
Still, Brian Baldinger wasn’t buying injury excuses as a full explanation. On X, he called out what he saw as a glaring lack of effort from the Eagles, and the tape backed him up in brutal fashion.
“You can use any adjective you want. They all apply.
Disgraceful. Lack of effort.
But can you just get ready to play? Can you get in your stance when the ball is snapped?
Can you just get in your stance? I don’t know how many times last night, we’re watching this, and like, they’re not even ready to play.
Dak’s under center, we’ve got conversation. The tackles are standing straight up.
You think the Cowboys are gonna gain yards right here? You watch this and you go, this effort, is just unacceptable, and it has to be called out.
Like there goes Javonte, right? For 34 yards.
Just look at this. These guys are walking down the field.
It’s a jog. It’s not even a jog, it’s a walk.
I mean, it was just shocking how bad it was. Like, if you’re gonna get this adjustment here that Vic likes to do… can you at least get on the line and get ready?
… If you’re gonna be on the goal line, why would you stand up on the goal line? … This is about as bad as I’ve seen all year, from any team.
“
He followed that up with another post saying, “the score doesn't come close to seeing how dominant the Cowboys were..They stole the Eagles lunch money and they didn't put up any fight…Nobody wants this performance on their resume' #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/ARRbVWnEXO”
That’s the part that stings. The injuries might explain a lot, but they don’t make the effort on those clips easier to swallow.
And after watching those breakdowns, the reaction runs the full range: anger, sadness, disappointment, even that hollow feeling that comes when a season starts slipping away in real time. It can be understood, maybe, if players are looking at the mounting injuries and sensing the playoff path getting thinner. Anybody who’s played sports knows that deflated feeling when the finish line starts looking out of reach.
But understanding it is not the same as accepting it. Fans shouldn’t have to watch a team drift through a game like that. Whatever this Eagles season ends up becoming, this kind of effort is not something anybody wants to see.

Jason Kelce Delivered A Very Philly Moment Eagles Fans Will Love
The Eagles season has been bruised by injuries, a four-game skid and the kind of offensive frustration that has put Nick Sirianni and Sean Mannion under a harsher spotlight in recent weeks. With Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley among the key players unavailable, Philadelphia heads into Week 7 at 2-4 with Tanner McKee now in position to run the offense, and the margin for error has all but vanished.
Amid all that strain, Jason Kelce still managed to give the fan base the kind of feel-good moment it can always appreciate. The former Eagles center drew a memorable reception during a recent game, a reminder that even in a tense stretch for the current team, some Philadelphia favorites can still light up the building and reconnect with the crowd in a way that feels distinctly on brand for this city. Eagles Fans Will Love Tanner McKees Message Before This Rivalry Game
With Jalen Hurts unavailable, Tanner McKee found himself in the middle of a rivalry spotlight he probably did not expect when the Eagles hosted the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field for their Week 8 matchup. Philadelphia leaned on its backup quarterback to help steady the offense, and the pregame tone around the team suggested it was ready for a physical, emotional night against a Dallas team that had already shown it could strike first.
McKee was part of the energy before kickoff and then helped the Eagles move the ball on drives that included Saquon Barkleys touchdown run, a response the home crowd had to appreciate after Dallas opened with a field goal. The Cowboys stayed in the game, too, with Dak Prescott finding CeeDee Lamb for a score, but the bigger question for Philadelphia was how McKee's presence would translate once the lights came on and the rivalry settled into the kind of back-and-forth that usually defines this matchup. Eagles Suddenly Face Bigger Questions Than Just Another Loss
The Eagles slide has gone well past the point of a bad week or two. Sundays loss to the Cowboys was their fifth straight, another ugly reminder that the defense is giving up too much yardage and too many touchdowns, and that the offense still has not found enough stability to bail out the other side of the ball. Tanner McKee had stretches that looked encouraging, but the mistakes were just as noticeable, leaving Philadelphia with more uncertainty than answers as the season keeps moving in the wrong direction.
Saquon Barkleys return offered at least a brief lift to the rushing attack, which made his early exit all the more frustrating for a team already trying to patch together solutions. With the record sinking deeper and the quarterback play still under the microscope, the Eagles are now staring at bigger questions about who settles things down first and whether the current approach is even sustainable if the losses keep piling up.
