The New York Giants are leaning all the way into nostalgia with Odell Beckham Jr., but Philadelphia Eagles fans shouldn’t treat the move like some kind of serious threat.
Beckham made the Giants’ initial 53-man roster to open the 2026 season, and the team even handed him back the No. 13 he wore during his peak years. That alone tells you what kind of move this is: part reunion, part throwback, part attempt to squeeze a little juice out of a familiar name.
For Giants fans, sure, it has the feel-good factor. For everyone else, it looks a lot more like fan service than a roster move built on hard football logic.
Beckham is 34 in November, and the production just hasn’t been there for a while. The last time he topped 600 receiving yards in a season was back when Freddie Kitchens and Baker Mayfield were trying to steady the Cleveland Browns, and Jordan Howard and Boston Scott were in the Philadelphia backfield. He’s also dealt with major injuries, including one that wiped out his entire 2022 season.
And last season? He caught nine passes on one of the worst offenses in football before the team underwent a full rebuild.
If his name were Odell Jones, the conversation would sound very different. He’s an older receiver who never had elite speed, even if it was solid earlier in his career, and now he’s lost multiple steps. That’s not exactly the profile of a player who screams must-have addition.
The Eagles, meanwhile, don’t have any reason to lose sleep over this. If Philadelphia had swapped A.J.
Brown for Quez Watkins, the reaction would be obvious. The funny part is that Watkins had a 600-yard receiving season more recently than Beckham.
And Beckham doesn’t exactly solve all of New York’s problems, either. Malik Nabers is not guaranteed to be fully healthy, Malachi Fields is a raw rookie, and the depth behind Beckham is shaky. Jaxson Dart is still a complete wild card at this stage of his career.
So yes, Giants fans get the nostalgia tour. They get to watch Beckham try to chase the feeling of 2015 again.
But for the Eagles, this is not the kind of move that changes the balance of anything. Philadelphia is still the team building toward championship contention while New York is banking on a familiar face to make the ride a little more fun.
