The idea of Brian Thomas Jr. landing in Philadelphia has been enough to get Eagles fans talking, but the odds of that trade actually happening look slim.
The chatter picked up after The Athletic’s Zach Berman wrote last week that if the Eagles had a chance to trade for Thomas, general manager Howie Roseman would likely jump at it. But Black & Teal Jaguars expert Carlos Sanchez isn’t buying into the possibility, and he made it clear he doesn’t see a deal coming together.
“Brown's departure left a void on offense, and Brian Thomas Jr. has been brought up as a potential answer to fill it. Granted, the Eagles added Makai Lemon and traded for Dontayvion Wicks, but neither is currently in the same echelon as Thomas.
Either way, this isn't the first time Philly has been dubbed a trade destination for Thomas. That doesn't mean it will happen, though.”
Sanchez pointed to the connection Thomas has already built with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville as one reason a move would be hard to justify. He also doesn’t think one down year is enough to make a trade realistic.
Thomas opened his NFL career in 2024 with 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, good enough to earn a Pro Bowl nod. Last season was a different story, with an injury limiting him to 11 games and his production dropping to 48 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns.
Philadelphia has already been busy reshaping its receiver room this offseason. The Eagles added Lemon, Wicks, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Elijah Moore.
They also let Jahan Dotson leave in free agency and traded A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.
On paper, Thomas would give Jalen Hurts a clear No. 2 target on the outside. He’d also bring a more established résumé than Wicks, who has been lost in the Green Bay Packers’ receiver mix over the last two seasons.
Still, the Eagles may not need Thomas at all. Lemon looks like the future answer at WR2, and Wicks brings plenty of upside. At that point, Thomas becomes more of a luxury than a necessity.
Roseman has other roster issues to handle, which makes a trade feel unlikely. But if Thomas ever does come up as a real option, Eagles fans know Roseman will at least make the call.
