The Giants did the Eagles no favors in Week 7.
New York’s overtime win over the Houston Texans pushed the NFC East picture further out of Philadelphia’s control, and now the Eagles head into Monday Night Football with even more urgency against the Dallas Cowboys. The division was already sitting there for any of the four teams to grab, but Philadelphia’s four-game losing streak has made the climb feel a lot steeper.
The Giants moved to 4-2-1 after pulling out a 27-21 victory in Houston, and they did it with J.J. McCarthy making his first start of the season.
McCarthy threw for 252 yards, while the Giants controlled the game on the ground with 188 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Cam Skattebo was the workhorse, finishing with 124 yards and a touchdown.
That result leaves New York with a two-game edge in the division, which is the exact kind of development the Eagles needed to avoid as they prepare for Dallas.
Philadelphia enters the week in second place behind the Giants, but the path back to the top gets much tougher if it slips again. A loss to the Cowboys would only deepen the hole and make the division race even harder to navigate.
The Eagles are already dealing with a long list of problems. They’re without DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Nolan Smith Jr., and Michael Carter for this game, while Jonathan Greenard, Saquon Barkley, and Landon Dickerson are questionable. On top of that, Tanner McKee is set to carry the offense with Jalen Hurts out for the season because of his blood clot injury.
McKee was efficient, but not great in the Week 6 loss to the Carolina Panthers, and now he has to manage an even more difficult setup against Dallas. With the way the roster is currently stretched, Philadelphia does not have much margin for error.
If the Eagles drop to 2-5, the pressure around their 2026 season would spike in a hurry. For now, they’re focused on beating the Cowboys and keeping the division race alive. But the Giants’ overtime win made sure the task got a lot harder.

Eagles Face A Bigger Week 7 Problem Than DeVonta Smith
DeVonta Smith is set to miss his third game of the season with a hamstring injury, leaving the Eagles to patch together another week without one of their most reliable targets. Philadelphia has already had to lean on other receivers to keep the passing game moving, with Makai Lemon, Darius Cooper, Elijah Moore and Marquise Brown all positioned to absorb more snaps in Smiths absence, along with the lingering void left by Dontayvion Wicks.
The bigger concern may be on the other side of the ball, where Michael Carter II is also out and the defense has to navigate another game without him. The Eagles have been able to survive some missing pieces on offense, but Carters absence is more unsettling because the players filling in for him have already given up far more production, and that could matter against a Cowboys offense built to test the secondary. Eagles Pass Rusher Gets A Huge Cowboys Chance At The Perfect Time
Arnold Ebiketie has spent much of his first season in Philadelphia in a familiar role for a veteran edge rusher looking to prove himself, working as the Eagles fourth pass rusher on a one-year deal and waiting for the kind of opportunity that can change how a season is viewed. Injuries around him have created exactly that opening, and after logging 91% of the defensive snaps in Week 6, he is in line to get an even bigger chance against the Dallas Cowboys. For a player trying to show he can be more than a rotational piece, the timing could not be much better.
Ebiketie has talked about staying locked in on the present and on the chance to raise his value, which is a pretty natural focus for a player approaching free agency. The Cowboys game gives him a stage that matters beyond one afternoon, especially with the Eagles needing reliable production off the edge while other pass rushers are sidelined. For Ebiketie, the next few weeks could go a long way toward shaping how his season is remembered and how teams view him when the market opens. [Read more 🡒]
Eagles Have A Week 7 Problem That Could Shape The Trade Deadline
With the trade deadline set for Nov. 10, the next stretch of games could decide whether the Eagles act like buyers or start shifting toward a more cautious posture. Philadelphia's immediate concern is Week 7, where the team will get a better look at some of the depth pieces it has been carrying, especially with DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks unavailable.
That creates a tricky evaluation window for a roster that still has enough talent to stay in the playoff mix, but not enough certainty to ignore underperforming spots. Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore and Tariq Woolen have come up as names worth monitoring, and if the Eagles keep wobbling, those discussions could get louder as the deadline gets closer. [Read more 🡒]
