Eagles Face Growing Concern Over A.J. Brown Deal

Despite a lucrative contract, A.J. Brown faces scrutiny as his performance raises questions about his value to the Eagles moving forward.

The Philadelphia Eagles are facing a tough situation with A.J. Brown, who is emerging as their most overpaid player for the 2026 NFL season. Two years ago, Brown inked a hefty three-year, $96 million extension, but his performance hasn’t quite lived up to that price tag lately.

Last season, Brown managed 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. While those numbers aren’t shabby, they fall short of the high expectations set by his top-10 average annual value and cap hit. The chemistry between Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts seemed off, adding to the concerns.

Brown's history with the Eagles includes three Pro Bowl selections and a pivotal role in their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Since joining Philadelphia in 2022, he’s racked up impressive career stats with 339 receptions, 5,034 yards, and 32 touchdowns for the team.

However, tensions flared during the Eagles' wild-card round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. A heated exchange on the sideline with head coach Nick Sirianni and two critical drops left fans frustrated. Brown wrapped up that game with just three catches for 25 yards, leading to boos from the Philadelphia faithful.

Financially, the Eagles face a dilemma. Trading Brown before June 1 would saddle them with a dead cap hit exceeding $40 million, whereas waiting until after that date would reduce it to under $20 million.

With 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns across his NFL career with the Titans and Eagles, Brown’s future remains a hot topic. Where he ends up next season is anyone’s guess, but it's a storyline worth watching closely.
