Monday night in Week 3 brings an NFC matchup that suddenly looks a lot more complicated than it did a few days ago. The Philadelphia Eagles head to Chicago with a 2-0 record, but they still haven’t covered a spread this season, and the Bears’ quarterback situation has pushed the line all the way from Eagles -4.5 to Eagles -3.
That move tells the story. Chicago was listed as a 1.5-point favorite before the market flipped after Caleb Williams went down in Week 2’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams was carted off with a leg injury, and Ben Johnson later said he’s week-to-week with a hamstring issue. If he can’t go, Tyson Bagent would be in line for his fifth career start.
For the Bears, that would be a blow, but not a death sentence. Bagent is a workable backup, and Chicago has leaned on the ground game early this season, ranking fifth in EPA/Rush. The Bears have also been strong in a very specific spot under Johnson, going 3-0 against the spread as home underdogs against him.
The Eagles, meanwhile, have some real questions of their own. They needed a late rally to get past the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, and while Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith found something together down the stretch, Saquon Barkley barely had a role.
He played only 15.8 percent of the offensive snaps and finished with nine yards on four carries. Barkley also dealt with a stinger, and his status is one of the biggest things to watch heading into Monday.
That matters because Philadelphia’s offense has not looked like a machine. The Eagles are 13th in EPA/Play on offense and 21st in EPA/Play on defense, and they’ve already lost Dallas Goedert in Week 2.
Barkley, who ran for over 1,000 yards in 2025, has just 92 rushing yards so far in 2026 after going over 2,000 in 2024. The Eagles need more from him and the run game if they’re going to get where they want to go this season.
Chicago’s run defense gives Philly a possible opening. The Bears are allowing 4.9 yards per carry and sit 18th in the NFL in EPA/Rush. If Barkley is active and closer to himself, this could be the kind of spot where he gets back on track.
Still, the Eagles haven’t exactly inspired confidence on defense. They let both Tennessee and Washington back into games late in the first two weeks, and that kind of slippage leaves the door open for an upset. With Williams likely out and the line already moving toward Chicago, the Bears covering - and even winning outright - feels very much in play.
