The Philadelphia Eagles are entering the offseason with a tight cap situation, boasting just $18.2 million to maneuver, according to OverTheCap. This means general manager Howie Roseman will need to be strategic with his roster decisions.
Last year, Roseman took a gamble on veteran pass rushers with one-year contracts, hoping for immediate impact on the defensive line. When that plan didn’t pan out, the Eagles made a midseason move for Jaelan Phillips to boost their pass rush.
Looking ahead to free agency, Philadelphia is eyeing a new No. 2 cornerback to pair with Quinyon Mitchell, as Adoree’ Jackson's contract is up. Despite a rocky start, Jackson, now 31, finished strong, making his return a possibility.
However, the Eagles might seek a younger option either through free agency or the draft. One name to watch is former Washington Commanders cornerback Benjamin St-Juste.
St-Juste brings familiarity, having played four seasons with the Commanders. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds, he was a consistent starter for three years, with his standout season in 2023. That year, he tallied 67 tackles, 17 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, an interception, a sack, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit.
In coverage, St-Juste proved formidable, with opposing quarterbacks struggling to complete passes against him. He allowed just two touchdowns and held an 87.3 passer rating when targeted.
After leaving the Commanders, St-Juste joined the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. Though he mostly played a reserve role, starting only two games, he still appeared in 16, participating in 37% of defensive snaps and 72% of special teams snaps. Despite limited time, he recorded seven pass deflections and an interception, allowing a 53.5% completion rate and a 68.3 passer rating.
St-Juste also improved his tackling, a previous issue in Washington, with zero missed tackles during his stint with the Chargers.
Given his performance, the Chargers might want to retain him, with Spotrac projecting his market value at a one-year, $1.7 million deal. If that's his price, the Eagles should consider making a move.
They could offer St-Juste a starting role alongside All-Pros Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. His size and physicality could be a perfect fit for Philadelphia’s secondary.
The Eagles managed with Jackson last season, but with Kelee Ringo and Jakorian Bennett not meeting expectations, securing a solid CB2 is crucial for 2026.
