Eagles Eye Unexpected Bargain Players in Free Agency Week Two

Exploring strategic additions for the Eagles, as they navigate a depleted free agency pool to strengthen key positions this season.

As the first week of NFL free agency wraps up, the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy, adding five new faces and re-signing some familiar ones. But the hunt for talent isn't over yet. Let's dive into five potential bargain players who could fit the Eagles' needs.

Greg Dortch (27), WR/RS, Cardinals (5'7, 180)

Greg Dortch has carved out a niche for himself after bouncing around several practice squads, finding a role with the Cardinals as both a receiver and return specialist. Over the past four seasons, Dortch has averaged 36 catches for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns per season. Notably, he posted a career-high 11.6 yards per return in 2025, ranking 10th in the NFL.

Dortch is the kind of player who thrives in open space, making defenders miss with ease. The Eagles have shown interest in similar players, having previously drafted Ainias Smith and signed Avery Williams.

While those moves didn't pan out, Dortch's proven success in the NFL and potential affordability make him an intriguing option. Even with Marquise Brown joining the roster, the Eagles could use more depth at wide receiver.

Marcus Epps (30), S, Eagles (6'0, 198)

The safety market has been picked clean, leaving the Eagles with limited options. Marcus Epps, who was released by the Patriots before the 2025 season, found his way back to Philadelphia, playing in 12 games. Though he missed four games due to an undisclosed injury, Epps returned to start four December games and the Eagles' playoff matchup against the 49ers.

While his 21 tackles were his only stats for the season, Epps remains a reliable backup. He may not deliver highlight-reel plays, but his understanding of the game provides depth in a position where the Eagles need both starters and backups.

Fred Johnson (28), OT, Eagles (6'7, 326)

Fred Johnson was a consistent presence for the Eagles in 2025, appearing in all 18 games and starting nine. He logged a career-high 626 regular season snaps and another 72 in the playoffs, stepping in for Lane Johnson at right tackle and playing left tackle in the season finale against the Commanders.

Though a step down from the legendary Lane Johnson, Fred has proven capable in a backup role. After a stint with the Jaguars, he's back in Philadelphia, and with the free agency market cooling, the Eagles might retain him for added depth on the offensive line.

James Daniels (28), iOL, Dolphins (6'4, 320)

James Daniels is a seasoned interior lineman, having played eight NFL seasons with stints in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Miami. Despite suffering major injuries in the last two seasons, Daniels' versatility across all interior positions makes him a valuable asset.

The Eagles have shown interest in Daniels before, and his experience could provide veteran competition for Tyler Steen, as well as insurance for Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson, who have battled injuries.

Jacob Bobenmoyer (28), LS, Raiders (6'1, 235)

Jacob Bobenmoyer has been a consistent long snapper, first with the Broncos and then with the Raiders. As the Eagles look to fill this specialized role, Bobenmoyer stands out as a straightforward solution.

In a free agency period where options are limited, these players represent potential value for the Eagles as they aim to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
