The Philadelphia Eagles are watching the Miami Dolphins’ roster overhaul with clear interest - and for good reason. Miami’s recent wave of high-profile releases has sent shockwaves through the league, and with GM Howie Roseman always looking for an edge, it’s no surprise the Eagles are keeping tabs on South Beach.
One name that immediately jumps out is edge rusher Bradley Chubb. There’s an obvious connection here: Chubb played under current Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio during their time together in Denver. That familiarity could make Chubb a natural fit in Philadelphia’s evolving defensive scheme, especially as the Eagles look to retool a pass rush that lacked consistency last season.
But while Chubb might make sense, there’s another name that’s surfaced - and this one should give the Eagles serious pause: Tyreek Hill.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are moving on from Hill, a two-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro during his stint in Miami. On paper, Hill’s résumé is elite.
Over the past decade, he’s been one of the most explosive playmakers in football, racking up eight Pro Bowl nods and five All-Pro selections. His speed, route-running, and big-play ability have made him a nightmare for opposing defenses.
So why should the Eagles steer clear?
For starters, there’s the off-field component. Hill has a history of legal issues, and after a 2025 season that saw the Eagles deal with more than their fair share of locker room drama, adding a player with potential baggage is a risk this franchise doesn’t need. Philadelphia is trying to reset its culture - not add more volatility.
Then there’s the health factor. Hill dealt with a significant ACL and knee injury last season, and there are real questions about whether he’ll be ready for the start of 2026.
For a team that’s already navigating uncertainty around A.J. Brown, rolling the dice on another wide receiver with injury concerns doesn’t make much sense.
Speaking of Brown, if the Eagles do decide to move on from their star wideout - and that’s still very much a hypothetical at this point - they’d be better served looking to the 2026 NFL Draft for a long-term solution. This year’s draft class is expected to be deep at wide receiver, and with multiple early picks, Philadelphia is in a strong position to find a young, cost-controlled weapon to pair with DeVonta Smith.
There’s also a potential stopgap option in free agency. Former Packers receiver Romeo Doubs could be a name to watch. He has familiarity with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion from their time in Green Bay, and while he’s not a WR1, he’s a solid complementary piece who could step in and contribute right away.
Bottom line: While the Eagles should absolutely explore ways to upgrade their roster, especially if they part ways with A.J. Brown, Tyreek Hill isn’t the answer.
Between the off-field concerns and the injury risk, it’s a move that doesn’t align with where this team is trying to go. There are smarter, safer paths forward - and knowing Howie Roseman, the Eagles are already mapping them out.
