The Tennessee Titans had the Philadelphia Eagles on the ropes in Nashville, and for a brief moment late in the fourth quarter, Jeffery Simmons let the moment speak for itself.
After Tennessee grabbed a 20-17 lead, Simmons turned toward Eagles fans, grabbed himself, and shouted an explicit line. It was a flash of swagger in a game that had already turned into a grind.
But the celebration didn’t age well. A few minutes later, Jalen Hurts found Darius Cooper from three yards out with nine seconds left, and the Eagles walked out with a 24-20 win.
For most of the afternoon, though, Simmons was the reason the Eagles had such a hard time getting comfortable. The Titans’ defense repeatedly bothered Hurts, who was sacked three times and intercepted twice, and Simmons was at the center of that pressure. The four-time Pro Bowl selection put together a disruptive performance, finishing with six combined tackles, three quarterback hits, one tackle for loss, and a sack.
He was a constant problem in the middle, forcing Hurts to move and helping Tennessee keep Philadelphia in check for much of the second half. On a scorching Sunday in Nashville, that interior push gave the Titans a real shot at pulling off the upset.
After the loss, Simmons didn’t hide his frustration. He focused on the chances Tennessee had to finish the job and what the defense had done to create them. Simmons said, “We knew if we came into this game and affected the quarterback, which we did a lot tonight, we knew we had a chance.”
