Eagles Conduct Second Interview With Candidate Tied to Rival Team

As the Eagles zero in on their next offensive coordinator, a mix of familiar connections and rising coaching talent sharpens the focus on a tight race.

The Eagles are closing in on a new offensive coordinator, and the shortlist is starting to take shape.

According to reports, Philadelphia conducted a second interview with Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter on Wednesday - this time face-to-face after an initial virtual meeting. Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion also met with the team in person earlier in the week, following his own virtual interview.

At this stage, Cooter and Mannion stand out as the only two candidates to have gone through two rounds of interviews, a clear indication that they’re high on the Eagles’ list. It appears the team has wrapped up its first round of conversations and is now deep into the second phase of the process. More in-person meetings could still be on the horizon as the front office narrows down its options.

One name that continues to hover around the search is former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Given his ties to the franchise and his experience under Andy Reid, a second interview wouldn’t be a shock.

Cooter, for his part, has a history with head coach Nick Sirianni that could make for a smooth transition. The two worked together in 2021 when Cooter served as an offensive consultant during Sirianni’s first year in Philly. Their connection goes back even further to their time on the 2012 Chiefs staff, giving them a shared foundation and familiarity with each other’s approach to offensive football.

Nagy also brings a level of continuity to the table. He spent four seasons with the Eagles from 2008 to 2012 during the Andy Reid era, and has since logged nearly a decade more under Reid in Kansas City. That kind of pedigree - especially in an offense-first league - carries real weight.

Then there’s Mannion, who represents more of a curveball. After eight years in the league as a backup quarterback, Mannion made the jump to coaching with the Packers in 2024. He was promoted to quarterbacks coach ahead of the 2025 season, and has been working closely with Matt LaFleur - one of the brightest offensive minds in the game.

Mannion’s coaching tree is already impressive. He played for Kevin O’Connell in Minnesota and Sean McVay in Los Angeles, both of whom are considered elite offensive architects. While he may not have the same coaching tenure as Cooter or Nagy, his exposure to modern, innovative systems could be exactly the kind of fresh voice Philly is looking for.

The Eagles haven’t made a final call yet, but the picture is getting clearer. Whether they lean on familiarity with Cooter or Nagy, or take a bold swing with Mannion, the next OC will play a pivotal role in shaping the offense’s identity moving forward. And with the talent already on this roster, whoever gets the nod will have the tools to make an immediate impact.
