Philadelphia Eagles fans will see a new face on the sidelines this year, as assistant linebackers/defensive quality control coach Ronell Williams is heading to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders have officially welcomed the Chester, Pennsylvania native as their new linebackers coach.
Williams, a familiar name in coaching circles, was also in talks with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason. His connection with former Eagles assistant Christian Parker, now with the Cowboys, made him a candidate for their revamped defensive staff.
The Raiders' interest in Williams isn't surprising. With former Eagles front office members Brandon Hunt and Anthony Patch now part of the Raiders organization, the synergy is evident.
Plus, the Eagles' recent linebacker success story is hard to ignore. Zack Baun's first-team All-Pro nod in 2024 and consecutive Pro Bowl appearances set a high bar.
Nakobe Dean, though a free agent, has shown elite performance when healthy, and Jihaad Campbell, a 2025 first-round pick, flashed potential as a rookie. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has also impressed in his limited snaps.
While it’s unclear whether Williams’ move was due to an expired contract or a strategic hire by the Raiders, one thing is certain: the Eagles will be on the hunt for a new assistant to pair with Bobby King.
Williams joins a list of defensive coaches, including Christian Parker and Tyler Yelk, who have exited the Eagles this offseason. It’s a time of transition for Philly, but with their track record, fans can expect them to tackle these changes head-on.
