The Philadelphia Eagles are deep into their search for a new offensive coordinator, and the list of serious contenders is starting to take shape. On Wednesday, the team hosted Josh Grizzard for a second interview - a clear sign that he's firmly in the mix for the job.
Grizzard, who most recently served as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator, has had a fast-moving coaching journey. He initially joined the Bucs to support Liam Coen, who was brought in to replace Dave Canales. But when Coen exited, Grizzard stepped up and took over the OC role in 2025.
Now, let’s be honest - the results from that one-year stint were a mixed bag. Tampa finished 19th in points scored and 20th in total yards, numbers that don’t exactly jump off the page. The Bucs also stumbled to an 8-9 finish after starting the season 6-2, a late-season slide that ultimately cost Grizzard his job.
But context matters. Tampa was hit hard by injuries in 2025, and that instability no doubt played a role in the offense’s uneven performance.
Despite the struggles, there were flashes - including a stretch where Baker Mayfield was generating legitimate MVP buzz. That midseason surge may have caught the Eagles’ attention, especially given how much they value creativity and adaptability in their offensive staff.
Grizzard isn’t the only candidate getting a second look. The Eagles have also brought back Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion for follow-up interviews.
That trio appears to be the current shortlist, though the team has cast a wide net during this process. Other names previously interviewed include former Dolphins OC Frank Smith, ex-Chiefs coordinator Matt Nagy, and Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson.
At this stage, it’s clear the Eagles are weighing a mix of experience and upside. Grizzard may not have the longest track record, but his rise through the coaching ranks and his recent play-calling experience - even in a tough situation - make him an intriguing option. Whether Philadelphia leans toward a more seasoned voice like Cooter or takes a swing on a younger coach with a fresh perspective remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure: the Eagles are being thorough. With a talented roster and high expectations, whoever lands the OC job will be stepping into one of the most scrutinized roles in the league.
