So far this season, though, Philadelphia had been leaning heavily on Barkley in the run game. That has frustrated fans, who wanted to see more of Bigsby in the offense, just as they did last year.
Shipley’s role is expected to remain more specialized. He has been used more as a third-down back and in passing situations, where he has been a useful piece for the Eagles even if his touches have been limited.
Philadelphia is going to need both backs to contribute if Barkley is unavailable. And even if Barkley returns against Tennessee, Bigsby and Shipley should still see more snaps, especially with the team wary of putting too much on Barkley and risking further injury.
