Jalen Hurts is heading back to the Pro Bowl - and while it might not be under the circumstances he or the Eagles hoped for, it still marks another milestone in what’s already been a noteworthy career.
The Eagles announced Friday that Hurts has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster as a replacement, giving the 27-year-old quarterback his third career selection. It’s a reminder that even in a season that didn’t quite live up to the sky-high expectations, Hurts still produced at a level worthy of recognition.
Let’s rewind for a moment. Hurts first earned Pro Bowl honors after a breakout 2022 campaign, when he was firmly in the MVP conversation and helped guide Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl appearance since 2017.
He followed that up with another strong showing and another Pro Bowl nod. Now, despite a 2025 season that felt like a step back in some areas, he's once again among the league’s elite at his position - at least in terms of accolades.
Was 2025 Hurts’ best season? No.
But it also wasn’t the kind of down year some might make it out to be. He started 16 games and led the Eagles to an 11-5 record.
He completed nearly 65% of his passes (64.8, to be exact), threw for 3,224 yards, and posted a career-high 25 touchdown passes against just six interceptions. On the ground, he added 421 rushing yards and eight more scores.
That’s 33 total touchdowns - not exactly pedestrian numbers.
Still, the season ended with a thud. The Eagles entered the playoffs as the NFC’s third seed but fell flat in the Wild Card round against the 49ers.
Hurts managed just 168 passing yards and one touchdown in that game, as the offense stalled when it mattered most. For a team fresh off a Super Bowl win in 2024, the early exit was a disappointment, and naturally, questions followed.
One of the biggest changes came on the coaching staff. After just one season, offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was replaced by Sean Mannion. That move signals a shift in direction - and perhaps a renewed effort to get the most out of Hurts, whose dual-threat capabilities remain among the most dynamic in the league when he’s in rhythm.
The Pro Bowl nod doesn’t erase the sting of a one-and-done playoff run, but it does serve as a reminder: Hurts is still one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC. And with a new offensive system on the horizon in 2026, the Eagles are betting that he can bounce back in a big way - maybe even earn a fourth Pro Bowl selection the old-fashioned way, as a starter.
For now, though, there’s reason to celebrate in Philly. Hurts joins teammates Cam Jurgens, Zack Baun, Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell in this year’s Pro Bowl festivities - a solid group that reflects both veteran leadership and emerging talent on the Eagles' roster.
The season may not have ended the way the Eagles wanted, but Hurts’ third Pro Bowl selection is a well-earned silver lining - and a reminder that his story is far from finished.
