Eagles Add Elijah Moore While Quietly Securing Another Key Piece

Eagles bolster their lineup by signing versatile wide receiver Elijah Moore and re-signing reliable tackle Fred Johnson, positioning themselves strategically in free agency.

The Eagles are making strategic moves in free agency, bolstering their roster by signing wide receiver Elijah Moore and re-signing backup tackle Fred Johnson. These additions were confirmed by a league source on March 24.

Elijah Moore brings valuable depth to the Eagles' receiving corps, regardless of any potential trades involving A.J. Brown.

Originally drafted in the second round by the Jets in 2021, the same year the Eagles picked DeVonta Smith, Moore has journeyed through several teams, including the Browns and the Bills. His best season came in 2023 with Cleveland, where he racked up 640 receiving yards, followed by a career-high 61 receptions in 2024.

Although his stint with the Bills last season was quieter, with just 112 yards, Moore's talent is undeniable.

Moore is expected to slot in behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, who joined the Eagles last week.

If a trade involving A.J. Brown occurs, Moore and Hollywood Brown would step up alongside Smith, with the Eagles likely targeting another receiver in the early rounds of the draft to strengthen their top three.

Fred Johnson's return solidifies the Eagles' offensive line depth. He has been a crucial backup, stepping in for both right tackle Lane Johnson and left tackle Jordan Mailata over the past two seasons.

Johnson started the last eight games of the previous season at right tackle, filling in admirably for the injured Lane Johnson. In 2024, he also stepped up for Mailata, who missed five games due to injury.

Despite exploring opportunities to become a starter, Johnson has returned to the Eagles, where his reliability and experience continue to be invaluable assets. His journey included a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Eagles managed to bring him back, underscoring his importance to the team.
