Dolphins Cut Bradley Chubb Adding Major Twist to Free Agency Market

A former Pro Bowl pass rusher is entering a crowded free agent market-now the question is which contender will make the first move.

Bradley Chubb is officially hitting the open market, and with that, one of the league’s more disruptive pass rushers becomes a name to watch this offseason. According to reports, the Miami Dolphins are set to release the veteran edge rusher, likely with a post-June 1 designation-a move that would save the team $20 million in cap space, rather than just $7.3 million without it.

This decision isn’t coming out of nowhere. Chubb already restructured his deal last year, taking a significant pay cut that cost him over $9 million.

He responded with a solid campaign-8.5 sacks, 20 quarterback hits, 47 tackles, and a pair of forced fumbles. But even with that production, the financials were tough to justify.

Chubb was set to earn $31 million next season and another $31 million in 2027-numbers that simply didn’t align with the Dolphins’ current cap strategy.

Now, Chubb joins a growing list of high-profile edge rushers potentially on the move this offseason. Khalil Mack, Trey Hendrickson, and Haason Reddick are all expected to hit free agency, while Maxx Crosby’s name has been swirling in trade rumors. It’s shaping up to be a fascinating offseason for teams looking to bolster their pass rush.

So where could Chubb land next? There are four teams that stand out as logical fits.

Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers make a lot of sense right off the bat.

They run a 3-4 defense-Chubb’s bread and butter-and even with Jesse Minter heading to Baltimore to become the Ravens’ new defensive coordinator, the expectation is that the Chargers will stick with a similar defensive structure under new DC Chris O’Leary. If they let Khalil Mack walk in free agency, Chubb could be a plug-and-play replacement on the edge.

And with $83.6 million in projected cap space-third-most in the league-they’ve got the financial flexibility to make it happen.

Baltimore Ravens
Speaking of Minter, his new team could also be in play.

The Ravens’ pass rush underwhelmed last season, finishing with just 30 sacks-tied for the third-lowest total in the league. With Kyle Van Noy hitting free agency, Baltimore has a clear need on the edge.

Chubb would bring proven production and scheme familiarity, and he’d immediately boost a unit that needs more juice off the edge.

Washington Commanders
Washington’s defense was a mess in 2025.

They gave up a league-worst 384.3 yards per game and are in desperate need of reinforcements across the front seven. The Commanders have $76 million in cap space to work with, and with a new regime in place, they’ll be aggressive in reshaping the roster.

Chubb brings both talent and leadership to a defense that needs a reset.

Dallas Cowboys
Don’t sleep on Dallas as a potential landing spot, either.

New defensive coordinator Christian Parker comes from the Vic Fangio coaching tree, having worked under him in Denver and most recently with the Eagles. That’s a scheme Chubb knows well-he played in it for three and a half seasons, racking up 14 sacks in that span and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2020.

If Parker leans into that system in Dallas, Chubb could fit seamlessly into the rotation.

Bottom line: Chubb might be moving on from Miami, but he won’t be on the market for long. He’s still just 30, still productive, and still a force off the edge in the right system. For teams in need of a pass rusher-and there are plenty-he’s one of the most intriguing names available this offseason.
