The New England Patriots are still on the hunt for a standout wide receiver. This need became even more pressing after they parted ways with Stefon Diggs due to his hefty 2026 cap hit. While Romeo Doubs joins the roster, he's not quite the game-changer Diggs was, and the Patriots are still searching for additional firepower.
Rumors are swirling about New England's interest in trading for A.J. Brown, but until any deal is sealed, it's all just speculation. The Philadelphia Eagles aren't exactly eager to part with Brown, given the financial implications and the void he'd leave in their lineup.
Enter a fresh proposal from Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, who suggests a trade scenario involving the Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys. This deal would see wide receiver George Pickens making his way to New England.
Moton points out, "To avoid a potential holdout situation, Dallas can ship Pickens off to the New England Patriots." With New England boasting $51.6 million in cap space, they have the flexibility to bring Pickens on board and offer him a lucrative extension, especially with quarterback Drake Maye still a year away from a new deal.
Currently tagged by the franchise, Pickens is expected to hold out until a long-term contract is in place. This looming holdout could push Dallas to consider trading him. Compared to Brown, Pickens is younger and would likely require less in terms of draft capital-potentially just a second-round pick, while the Eagles are reportedly asking for much more for Brown.
The Patriots have the financial means to extend Pickens, as Moton highlights. While there's some risk involved due to Pickens' past behavioral issues, the Patriots are in a position to take calculated risks after their Super Bowl appearance last season. If Pickens becomes available, New England might just be willing to roll the dice.
