Commanders Just Added More Fuel To A Game Eagles Desperately Need

Despite the Commanders struggles, Washington's Amik Robertson promises a triumph over the sluggish Eagles this Sunday.

Washington’s Amik Robertson didn’t leave much room for interpretation when he looked ahead to Sunday night’s matchup with the Eagles.

“We definitely need to win this game. And we will, you know?

We gotta be detailed. We gotta practice hard.

We gotta focus on all the little things. Stop making, you know, repeating mistakes.

You know, and, and, and take it on to the game. Execute at a high level, everybody around the ball, and, and, you know, blow them out the water… We had six weeks of, however many weeks, to get all those mistakes out, man.

Like, it’s just really no excuses, and that goes for myself, that goes for everybody. Offense, defense, like, we’re trying to execute at a high level and play complementary football, and that’s offense, defense, and special teams.”

When the reporter followed up and asked whether that meant a guarantee, Robertson doubled down.

“It have to be… We have to win the rest of these games if we’re gonna go where we wanna go.”

That confidence comes with the Commanders set to host an Eagles team that has fallen apart over the last month. Philadelphia enters Sunday night at 2-5, riding a five-game losing streak, and goes to Washington as a 5.5-point underdog.

The Commanders haven’t exactly been healthy, either. Terry McLaurin is out with a pulled hamstring, Laremy Tunsil hasn’t played all season because of a torn tricep, Jaden McDaniels has already missed a few games, and the injury list keeps going. The result has been a 1-4-1 start.

By the numbers, Washington has been uneven on offense and vulnerable on defense. According to Sportradar data, the Commanders rank 19th in total offense at 325.2 yards per game and 20th in scoring offense at 22.0 points per game. They’re ninth in rushing offense at 125.2 yards per game and 22nd in passing offense at 200.0 yards per game.

On the other side, the defense has taken on plenty of water. Washington is 25th in total defense, allowing 354.5 yards per game, and 31st in scoring defense at 28.7 points per game. The run defense sits 14th at 100.5 yards allowed per game, while the pass defense ranks 28th at 254.0 yards allowed.

So yes, Robertson is talking big. But this isn’t exactly the kind of guarantee that stops the presses. Philadelphia has been so shaky that a Washington win wouldn’t qualify as a shock.

Still, Robertson’s tone stood out. He sounded fully committed to the idea that the Commanders need this one, and he made it clear he expects them to play with urgency, detail, and focus against the Eagles on Sunday night.

Eagles Suddenly Have A Backfield Problem They Can't Ignore

The Eagles backfield has gone from a luxury to a concern in a hurry, with injuries thinning the running back room to the point where Elijah Mitchell and Jaydon Blue are the only healthy options. Mitchell, who joined Philadelphia this summer, was briefly cut before being brought back, and he saw action in Week 7 as the team tried to patch together a workable rotation. Saquon Barkley is still the preferred answer when available, but the group around him has become increasingly fragile.

Mitchell is now in position to take on a much larger role in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders, with the Eagles needing someone steady enough to help keep the offense on schedule. Blue remains in the mix, but the bigger issue is whether Philadelphia can get enough stability from a unit that has been hit hard at the wrong time. For a team built to lean on balance, the next few days could determine how much flexibility the Eagles really have in the run game. [Read more 🡒]

Eagles Suddenly Look Thin In One Area Before Washington

The Eagles injury report is starting to look like a depth chart problem as much as a health update. With Week 8 against Washington approaching, six players were out of practice for a second straight day, leaving Philadelphia to sort through a growing list of absences while trying to keep its game plan intact.

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith were among the names sidelined again, and their continued absence stands out because both are central to what Philadelphia wants to do on offense. Add in the other missed practices and the fact that 14 more players were limited or full participants, and the Eagles are suddenly managing a roster that looks thinner than usual at a key point in the week. Eagles Rough Start Just Reignited The Jalen Hurts Future Debate

A rough stretch has a way of turning every Eagles conversation back to the quarterback position, and Jalen Hurts is once again at the center of it. Hurts is out for the season because of blood clots, though the expectation is that he will recover, and the teams current skid has only added more noise around what comes next for Philadelphia at the games most important spot.

Hurts is still under contract through 2028 and holds a no-trade clause, but the long view is where the uncertainty starts to creep in. With the Eagles future quarterback plans still very much in the speculative stage, the debate has shifted from whether they need to think ahead to how aggressively they might eventually do it.
