C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the seasoned safety, has found a new home with the Buffalo Bills. During his first press conference with the team, he tackled a topic that's been shadowing him: his reputation as a challenging teammate.
Gardner-Johnson didn't shy away from addressing these perceptions head-on. "I look at it like this," he explained, emphasizing his focus on winning rather than worrying about what others think.
He likened his experience to learning the ropes at a new job, saying, "That’s like going to McDonald’s. You can eat McDonald’s, but you don’t know how to make the fries."
It's all about building relationships and improving together as a team, especially when the season's demands hit fast.
Last year, Gardner-Johnson was traded to Houston, a move he attributes to the Eagles being "scared of a competitor." His time with the Texans was short-lived, as they released him after an 0-3 start without seeking a trade. After a brief period with the Ravens, he found himself in Chicago.
In Chicago, Gardner-Johnson made his mark with 10 regular-season appearances and seven starts, even stepping up in the divisional playoff against the Rams. Reflecting on his journey, he said, "For me, every place I’ve been with, I won." He questioned why concerns about his locker room presence are surfacing now, especially when his teams have thrived in the past.
At 28, Gardner-Johnson's career has seen him play for the Saints, Eagles, Lions, Texans, Ravens, and Bears. With 87 regular-season games and 71 starts under his belt, he was also part of the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX championship team. His track record speaks volumes, and now with the Bills, he's ready to continue proving himself on the field.
