Bettors are loading up on the New York Giants to clear 7.5 wins, and the market is making that bet look louder by the day.
According to futures data passed along by BetMGM, the over is drawing 91% of the tickets and 94% of the handle on New York and New Jersey sports betting apps at +110. That makes it the most-bet over among all 32 NFL teams. The under sits at -135 and has only 9% of the tickets and 6% of the handle.
That kind of enthusiasm is raising eyebrows because it feels awfully familiar. The Giants were in the same spot last year after a 3-14 season, when bettors pushed them toward the over on a 5.5-win total.
Then the season played out in ugly fashion again. Injuries piled up, Brian Daboll was fired, and New York finished 4-13.
This time around, the optimism is tied to a different pitch. The Giants are being sold as a team with a real coach and a real plan, with John Harbaugh at the center of the conversation.
They also have sophomore year Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter, a healthy Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, first round picks Arvell Reese and Francis Mauigoa in the mix, and free-agent additions Isaiah Likely, Tremaine Edmunds, and Darnell Mooney. Brian Burns is also coming off a 16.5 sack season.
The argument is simple: they’ve got pieces, and they might finally be ready to stop being a punchline. Unless, of course, you’re the Jets.
The schedule, though, is no joke. New York opens with the Cowboys in primetime, then goes to the Rams in primetime before facing the Titans, Cardinals, and Commies. After that comes the Saints, Texans, Eagles, Commies again on Thursday Night Football, the Jag-wires, Colts, Niners, Seahawks, Browns, Lions, Cowboys, and Eagles again.
One read on it lands around 6-7 wins. Another path has them hanging around 7-9 before the final week, when the Eagles have already clinched the NFC East for the third straight year. In that scenario, the Birds rest their starters, Tanner McKee and Tank Bigsby take over, and the Giants’ first team sneaks out a win to get to 8-9 and cash the over.
