The Bears’ quarterback room suddenly looks a lot thinner, and that’s why a new name has surfaced in the conversation: Jalen Milroe.
Chicago is dealing with injuries to both Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent in the same week. Williams has a hamstring injury, while Bagent is in concussion protocol. That leaves the Bears in a position where Case Keenum could be the answer for Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
With the situation unsettled, the idea of adding another quarterback before Monday night is at least on the table. Milroe, the former Alabama standout now with the Seahawks, is the one being mentioned.
Seattle drafted him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he’s currently sitting behind Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. With Darnold back at practice, the Seahawks may not have the room to keep Milroe on the depth chart.
Milroe hasn’t logged much NFL action yet, but his college production is what makes him interesting to teams. In his final season at Alabama, he showed off a dual-threat game that turned heads.
He ran for 726 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 appearances in 2024. Through the air, he completed 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Those numbers are why Chicago could view him as more than just another name. The Bears wouldn’t need him to step in and run the offense right away. They could let him develop while also using his running ability in specific packages.
One proposed deal would send Milroe to Chicago for a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Because he has not yet proven himself as an NFL quarterback, Seattle may not be able to ask for a third-round return.
Milroe is still on his rookie contract, which Spotrac lists at roughly $6 million over four years. For the Bears, that makes him a possible insurance policy as much as anything else. Williams could be back sooner rather than later, but Bagent’s concussion adds another layer of uncertainty.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the latest on Bagent and the possible Week 3 setup. “Bears QB Tyson Bagent is dealing with a concussion and is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, sources say,” Rapoport wrote on X. “With Caleb Williams likely out with a hamstring injury, Case Keenum could be the starter vs the Eagles.”
So Chicago is left to sort through its options. Bringing in Milroe would give the Bears another young quarterback with a different kind of skill set, and one who can make plays with his legs.
