VJ Edgecombe wasted no time turning Jaylen Brown’s Twitch stream into a little bit of chaos.
The Philadelphia 76ers guard was on Brown’s livestream on Friday when Brown asked him to name his top five favorite hoopers of all time across high school, college, and the NBA. Edgecombe didn’t quite play along the way Brown expected. Instead, he split the answer into three separate lists and worked his way through each level with a straight face and a couple of jokes aimed right at his teammate.
In high school, Edgecombe started with Collin Sexton, Sharife Cooper, and Jalen Green, then added Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham to finish the group.
Those five names all make sense. Sexton, Cooper, Green, Edwards, and Cunningham were McDonald’s All-Americans, and while Edwards and Cunningham have gone on to become NBA stars, all five were standout high school players.
The college portion was where Edgecombe really started having fun with it.
“Aight college, Buddy Hield, Ben Simmons,” Edgecombe said. “Who else we got?
Paolo [Banchero], Zion [Williamson]. That’s four.
I feel like I’m missing somebody. Definitely not JB, chat.”
That was the shot at Brown. He played at California, where he won Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2016 and made First Team All-Pac-12, but Edgecombe clearly wasn’t putting him on the list right away. Brown and Edgecombe laughed it off, and Edgecombe eventually circled back and added Cam Reddish as his fifth college pick.
Then came the NBA list, where the big names started rolling in. Edgecombe named Stephen Curry and his new teammate LeBron James, then kept going with Damian Lillard and Dwyane Wade.
“League all-time, Bron, Curry, [Damian Lillard], [Dwyane Wade]… JB,” Edgecombe said.
Brown thought he had finally made the cut.
“Man, get your a** outta here,” Brown replied. “But W glaze, chat.”
That’s when Edgecombe flipped it on him.
“Sike, nah n***a Kyrie [Irving],” Edgecombe said.
Brown took the troll in stride, but it was another reminder that Edgecombe can keep up with the moment just as well as he can keep up on the floor.
James, Curry, Lillard, Wade, and Irving are all the kind of players people love to watch, and Edgecombe has often been compared to Wade. Wade has even seen similarities between the two, which is about as strong a compliment as a young guard can get.
Edgecombe’s rookie season gave the 76ers plenty to like. After Philadelphia took him with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, he averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. He finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting.
Brown, for his part, has already made it clear he’s a fan. After the 76ers’ 120-97 preseason win over the New York Knicks on Monday, the five-time All-Star praised Edgecombe in his press conference.
“I love VJ, already,” Brown said, via NBA on ESPN. “He’s one of my favorite people in the world, and we just met.
VJ’s going to be great. I’m excited to help him continue to thrive.
But his talent level is off the charts.”
Brown also explained why he thinks the two of them fit together so well.
“I think we kind of see the game similarly,” Brown said. “We try to get the spots that we want to get to, and now we have some similar viewpoints, so even when we talking to each other, we on the same page.”
For the 76ers, that’s the kind of chemistry you want to see this early. For Brown, it also means he’ll probably have to keep his guard up the next time Edgecombe gets handed a mic.

Joel Embiid Tries To Shut Down An Awkward 76ers Distraction
Joel Embiid spent part of the 76ers preseason week doing what veteran stars often have to do in October: clean up noise that has nothing to do with basketball. After a preseason game, Embiid addressed a false rumor that had started to swirl during Philadelphias opener, making clear that he and the locker room need to stay focused and united as the team moves through the early stages of the season.
The distraction picked up when an on-air mention during the opener gave the story oxygen, only for the claim to be walked back soon after. Embiid and LeBron James have both denied the idea behind it, but the episode was still enough to nudge attention away from what the 76ers would rather be talking about, which is getting their group settled and ready before the games start to count. Knicks Brought Jordan Clarkson Back For A Reason Fans Should Notice
Jordan Clarksons decision to stay in New York says plenty about the role the Knicks have carved out for him. After averaging a career-low 17.8 minutes per game last season, Clarkson re-signed on a minimum-salary deal without even testing the market, a sign he was comfortable with the minutes, the fit and the locker room environment around him. For a player with his scoring history, that kind of contentment matters, especially for a team that values stability and knows exactly what it wants from him.
There is also a broader backdrop for the Knicks and their division rivals this time of year, with roster moves and offseason messaging constantly shaping the conversation. Joel Embiid has been in the headlines again, while the Delaware Blue Coats added Dillon Jones returning rights and the Raptors brought in Kyle Anderson on a minimum-salary contract. For the 76ers, the noise around the East is only getting louder, and as Embiid made clear in his own comments, the next stretch will be about sorting out reality from all the chatter. [Read more 🡒]
LeBrons Legacy Debate Just Took A Wild New Turn
Chris Bosh added a new layer to the never-ending LeBron James legacy debate this week, praising James on Instagram and pointing to the Lakers stars already overflowing rsum of career achievements. Bosh framed the conversation around one of the sports most extreme what-ifs, tying James to a hypothetical path that would run through Philadelphia and, in Boshs view, end with another championship banner.
The idea is obviously far-fetched, especially with James having previously made clear he has no desire to coach in the NBA, but it still landed because of what the 76ers represent in the bigger picture. Philadelphia is being viewed as a title favorite for the 2026-27 season, which only adds to the intrigue whenever someone tosses James into the mix, even in jest or as a thought experiment.
