Camden, NJ - Tyrese Maxey, a key player for the Sixers, gave fans an update on his recovery journey after a tendon strain in his right pinky finger. The injury, sustained during a tough loss to the Atlanta Hawks, has kept him sidelined for the past 10 games. Though his return isn't just around the corner, there's hope on the horizon as he's set for a re-evaluation next week.
Maxey, ever the optimist, shared, "I feel pretty good. I got a new splint recently and have been focused on conditioning and doing everything required to get back."
Listening to the medical team is crucial for Maxey, as he aims to avoid any setbacks. "The main thing is feeling comfortable and trusting the doctors and training staff. It's challenging, but they have our best interests at heart," he explained.
Patience has been a newfound lesson for Maxey, especially after rushing back from a similar injury last season. "Last year, I pushed too hard.
This time, I know we’re in a good spot for the playoffs, so I’m taking the time to heal properly," he reflected. He emphasized the importance of this approach, particularly because the injury affects his shooting hand.
The Sixers are managing well in his absence, with Joel Embiid and Paul George recently returning to action and Kelly Oubre expected back soon. Maxey is eager to join them but understands the importance of a full recovery.
Looking ahead, if Maxey returns at his earliest opportunity, he could still feature in seven more games. With 61 games under his belt, he's close to qualifying for season awards.
His impressive stats-averaging 29.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game-underscore his impact. As the league leader in minutes per game, it would be a real loss not to see him recognized for his stellar contributions this season.
