Sixers Sign Former First-Round Pick After Waiving Promising Rookie

Looking to bolster depth and capitalize on recent G League success, the Sixers are bringing in a former first-round pick with international flair on a two-way deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are making a move that speaks to both development and upside, signing former first-round pick MarJon Beauchamp to a two-way contract. To make room, the team is parting ways with rookie guard Hunter Sallis.

Beauchamp, now 25, was selected 24th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft and has already seen a bit of a tour around the league. He’s had stints with the Bucks, Clippers, and Knicks, but hasn’t quite found a long-term home yet. Through 135 NBA games, his role has been limited - averaging just 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds - but the flashes of potential have been there, especially when given the opportunity to stretch out his game.

That opportunity has come recently in the G League, where Beauchamp has been turning heads with Delaware, the Sixers’ affiliate. In a small but telling sample - seven games during the Tip-Off Tournament and Winter Showcase - he’s been one of the most efficient scorers on the floor.

He’s putting up 20.7 points per game while shooting a blistering 50% from the field, 45.2% from deep, and an elite 93.3% from the free throw line. That kind of shooting profile, especially when paired with his athleticism and size on the wing, makes him a compelling piece for a Sixers team that’s always looking to bolster its depth with players who can contribute in meaningful ways.

And it’s not just the G League where Beauchamp has made noise. Earlier this month, he delivered a standout performance on the international stage, scoring a combined 50 points over two World Cup qualifying games for Team USA - a record for the qualification phase.

That kind of performance doesn’t just happen by accident. It’s a sign of a player who’s figuring things out and finding ways to impact the game at multiple levels.

This two-way deal gives the Sixers some flexibility. Beauchamp is in his final year of two-way eligibility, so this is a bit of a prove-it window - a chance to show he can translate his G League dominance and international scoring punch into NBA minutes. He joins Dominick Barlow and Jabari Walker as the team’s other two-way players, both of whom have already seen meaningful action this season.

For Philadelphia, this is a low-risk, high-upside move. Beauchamp brings length, scoring ability, and now, a growing confidence that’s starting to show in his numbers. If he can keep trending in the right direction, he might not just stick - he could carve out a real role in a Sixers rotation that’s always on the lookout for versatile, two-way wings.
