The Philadelphia 76ers are back in action Tuesday night, and after a double-overtime heartbreaker against the Atlanta Hawks, they’re hungry to turn the page. This time, they’ll face a Washington Wizards squad that’s deep in rebuilding mode - a matchup that, on paper, gives the Sixers a prime opportunity to get right.
But as always, the injury report looms large.
Let’s start with the obvious: Joel Embiid won’t suit up. After making his return on Sunday and logging 30 minutes - his first game back after missing nine straight with a sore right knee - the reigning MVP is being held out for injury management.
It’s a smart move by the Sixers, who are clearly playing the long game with Embiid’s health. No need to push him on the second night of a back-to-back, especially in early December.
Kelly Oubre Jr. and Trendon Watford also remain sidelined. Oubre is still working his way back from a left knee sprain, while Watford continues to rehab a left adductor strain. Both are versatile forwards who bring energy and flexibility to the rotation, and their absence continues to test Philly’s depth on the wing.
There are also a couple of question marks heading into tipoff. Andre Drummond is listed as questionable with a right knee contusion, and Paul George is dealing with some left knee recovery and lower back tightness. Their statuses could have a big impact on how the Sixers approach the frontcourt rotation, especially with Embiid out.
The good news for Philadelphia? This is a Wizards team that’s still finding its identity.
They’re young, they’re learning, and they’ve had their share of growing pains. That doesn’t mean the Sixers can take them lightly - no team in the NBA is a guaranteed win - but it does mean Philly has a real shot to reset, refocus, and stack a much-needed win.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The Sixers know what’s at stake - a chance to bounce back, stay afloat in the standings, and show they can handle business even without their MVP in uniform.
