Sixers Count on Justin Edwards to Shine Amid Injury Challenges

With injuries impacting the Sixers, Coach Nick Nurse has set ambitious goals for second-year forward Justin Edwards to elevate his game on both ends of the floor.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia 76ers are counting on second-year forward Justin Edwards to rise to the occasion as they navigate a wave of injuries. With key players sidelined, Edwards is stepping into a pivotal role, and his recent performances suggest he's ready for the challenge.

In back-to-back games, Edwards has delivered impressive scoring outputs, posting 19 and 21 points. His three clutch three-pointers in Sunday’s victory over the Portland Trail Blazers were instrumental in sealing the win.

While Edwards’ season has seen its ups and downs, head coach Nick Nurse remains confident in his potential. Nurse has set clear, achievable goals for the Philadelphia native as the season progresses.

"My goal for him would be to be a really good defender," Nurse shared after the Blazers game. "He's working on it, but he's still learning the ropes.

He's facing different players and scenarios, but I believe he can become a top-notch 3-point shooter. His mechanics and work ethic are outstanding, so it's just a matter of time."

The Sixers are eager for a more assertive Edwards, looking to him for contributions on both ends of the floor. With Paul George out until March 25, Edwards’ role becomes even more crucial.

Standing at 6-foot-7, Edwards understands what it takes to make an impact, especially defensively. He's focused on becoming stronger and more versatile.

"Just getting stronger, honestly," Edwards explained. "Being able to guard different positions is key for me.

I can take on a 4-man if needed. That's my biggest focus defensively-guarding multiple positions."

The Sixers are set to begin a three-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
