The Philadelphia 76ers have turned their offseason into a full-blown statement. Trading for Jaylen Brown and signing LeBron James in free agency has pushed the conversation in one direction: title expectations.
That belief is getting louder, too. Former Lakers guard Rajon Rondo said on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast, per Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World, that James’ next stop could work because of the people around him as much as the talent on the roster.
“I think it’s the personalities in the locker room that make a big difference. LeBron is at a point in his career where being around the right personalities matters just as much as the talent,” said Rondo on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast, per Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World. “He wants teammates he can genuinely enjoy being around, have fun with, and build real chemistry with.”
Rondo didn’t stop there. He also made it clear where he stands on Philadelphia’s championship outlook.
“If you give him these types of pieces to play with, you know, I’m an early bet with them being the favorites to win. You know, and my, and my book, I’m not a bettor, but if I were to bet, I would bet the Sixers early,” he said.
He’s hardly alone in seeing the 76ers as a real threat. There are still questions hanging over health, defense, and how all the pieces fit together, but Philadelphia’s talent level is drawing plenty of attention. If Nick Nurse can get the group moving in sync, the Sixers could be a problem for just about everybody.
Philadelphia opens the 2026-27 season on October 20 on the road against the New York Knicks.

Paul Georges Boston Fit Could Be Bad News For The Sixers
Paul Georges fit in Boston is an uncomfortable thought for the 76ers, even after a Philadelphia run that already gave a glimpse of how valuable he can still be in the right setting. His postseason role showed the kind of versatility and shot-making that can swing a series, and the attraction for the Celtics is obvious: a seasoned wing who can score, defend and slide into almost any lineup without needing the offense built entirely around him.
Under Joe Mazzulla, that profile could become even more dangerous in a system already stocked with skilled options and enough spacing to let George work without much friction. The 76ers know the burden he carried in Philadelphia, but Boston would offer a different kind of support and a deeper cast around him, which is exactly why the idea of him landing there has so much bite for a division rival still measuring what it would mean to see his best traits amplified elsewhere. 76ers Made A Quiet Front Office Move That Could Matter A Lot
The 76ers have added a familiar kind of behind-the-scenes voice to a front office that is trying to keep its identity intact after the departure of Daryl Morey. Philadelphia hired Tommy Balcetis as head of basketball intelligence, analytics and innovation, giving the organization another experienced hand in a role built around information, process and decision-making.
Balcetis arrives after 12 years in the Nuggets organization, where he worked his way up to assistant general manager and was part of Denvers 2023 title run. For the 76ers, the move signals a clear desire to keep an analytics-driven backbone in place while reshaping the front office around it, and it should be one of the more interesting subplots to watch as the team moves forward.
