Patrick Beverley is at least making the case that he still belongs in an NBA gym.
The former 76ers guard turned heads on Saturday when he popped up in a summer run alongside other pros, including Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren. A short highlight clip showed Beverley hitting threes, handling the ball, and creating offense with the kind of edge that defined his best NBA stretches.

For any team looking for an experienced guard, that kind of showing naturally invites the question: is there one more run left?
For the Sixers, though, the answer looks like no. Philadelphia is in a win-now frame of mind, but Beverley is unlikely to be part of the solution this season.
The club does have an open roster spot, yet the expectation is that it stays that way for now. Jabari Walker is viewed as the most obvious cut candidate, but there’s a clear preference to keep him.
When the Sixers needed to clear space to add Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, they moved Johni Broome for cash considerations instead of waiving Walker.
That roster setup points to a familiar path for Philadelphia. The Sixers are expected to begin the 2026-2027 season with an open spot again, then take a look at the free-agent market in December. Any deeper moves could wait until closer to the trade deadline, when the team may explore swaps or hunt for help in the buyout market after the deadline passes.
Beverley hasn’t appeared in the NBA since 2023-2024, when he opened the year with Philadelphia. He played 47 games for the Sixers, logging 19.6 minutes per night off the bench while shooting 43.2% from the field and 32.1% from three. He averaged 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
Before the 2024 deadline, the Sixers weren’t actively shopping him. Milwaukee called with an offer, and the previous Philadelphia front office made the deal. Beverley ended that stint with the Bucks after 26 games, putting up 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 39.1% overall.
Since then, he’s spent time with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel and PAOK in Greece. Whether that path leads back to the NBA remains unclear, but Philadelphia does not appear to be the destination if Beverley gets another shot.
