LeBron To Philly Suddenly Feels Like A Real Sixers Debate

Could LeBron secure another championship with a move to Philadelphia, or will sentiment guide him back to Cleveland's courts?

LeBron James’ free agency is still the loudest conversation hanging over the NBA offseason, and Colin Cowherd has a clear favorite if the four-time champion is going to make one more move. While the Cleveland Cavaliers are still viewed as the frontrunner, Cowherd said the Philadelphia 76ers would be the ideal destination.

On his podcast, Cowherd argued that the market around LeBron is not nearly as frenzied as some have made it sound, and he pushed back on the idea that teams are lining up in a full-blown chase. He said the league’s top teams are San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and the Knicks, but noted that the Spurs and Thunder are built around young talent and are not interested, while the Knicks “just won” and “don’t need him.”

“Of course, most teams would take LeBron. That’s not the question.

The question is whether teams are kicking down the door to get him, like shoppers rushing into a warehouse TV sale. There’s a difference between interest and demand.

That’s the difference between what Rich Paul is selling and what the market is actually buying. Cleveland is the sentimental favorite.

But LeBron has already left them twice. Golden State?

The nostalgia is powerful. But so are naps for old people.

And they need some.”

Cowherd said Philadelphia fits the moment in LeBron’s career better than the other options. He broke that career into three phases: the early stage when he was proving how gifted he was, the championship stage in Miami, and the mogul stage with the Lakers. He described the Lakers relationship as more business than romance.

“Now LeBron is in the sunset stage. Maybe one or two years left.

I’d choose Philadelphia. It’s the best starting five.

Potentially four Hall of Famers. An easier conference.

Who cares if it’s the easier path? Billy Joel only wants to play Madison Square Garden now.

Oscar-winning actors pick the best filming locations. Work smarter.

Live better.”

He also pointed to Tom Brady’s move to Tampa as the kind of decision he believes LeBron should follow.

“Tom Brady chose Tampa because they had great receivers, an offensive-minded coach, and a manageable division. He understood the assignment.

Age brings wisdom. The smart move is to join the best team with the best teammates.

The crown still fits LeBron. The only question is where he wants to wear it.”

“Take the easy route. Take the quickest path to another championship.

Go to Philadelphia. Let the haters hate.

You’ve earned it. So what if you’re chasing one more ring?

The league has been chasing you for the last 20 years.”

The Sixers would make for a fascinating fit. After landing Jaylen Brown this offseason, they now have a core built around Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Brown. Adding LeBron would immediately give them what Cowherd called the most talented starting lineup in the East, while also making them the biggest threat to the New York Knicks.

Still, the race is not settled. Brian Windhorst said rival executives believe the Cavaliers remain the team to beat, though he also said those executives are working off “vibes.”

Miami has stayed in the mix as well. Adam Schefter said LeBron’s growing interest in golf could make the Heat especially appealing, and Sam Amick reported that one rival team believes Miami is the favorite.

Golden State has not gone away, either. The Warriors are trying to make bold roster moves and have interest in Anthony Davis as part of an effort to attract LeBron. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets are still involved, too.

Cowherd’s case is less about sentiment and more about the cleanest path to another title. Cleveland may offer the storybook ending, but he wants LeBron to choose the route that gives him the best shot at another championship.

Why The Summer Sixers Suddenly Had The Whole NBA Watching

Labaron Philon Jr. and Johni Broome gave the Summer Sixers plenty to talk about in a 2026 NBA Summer League win over the Indiana Pacers, with Philon pouring in 24 points and Broome adding 23 points and 11 rebounds. The broadcast also turned into a bit of a showcase for the organization, as head coach Nick Nurse praised Philons creativity while the game drew attention from Sixers executives and players in the building.

What made the night feel bigger than a typical July game was the crowd around the team and the sense that Philadelphia had more eyes on its summer roster than usual. Jaylen Brown was among those taking in the action, and the mix of established names and young talent gave the Sixers a rare Summer League stage that felt closer to a regular-season event than a developmental tune-up. 76ers Summer League Breakout Is Suddenly Shaking Up Embiid Insurance

Johni Broome has turned two Summer League games into a real conversation for the 76ers, and that is not something many expected when the big man arrived looking like depth insurance. After spending most of last season in the G-League and seeing his NBA chances limited by an injury late in the year, Broome has looked far more comfortable in Las Vegas, backing up the eye test with strong scoring and rebounding in each outing.

For a Philadelphia frontcourt still sorting out who can handle minutes behind Joel Embiid, Broomes surge matters because it changes the shape of the competition. The 76ers have several bigs in that mix, but Broome has shown a different kind of offensive presence and a case for a larger role if this play carries over into the fall, which is exactly the sort of summer development that can quietly reshape a rotation.
