Joel Embiid Got Pulled Into A Strange LeBron Rumor Fast

LeBron James takes to social media to clarify rumors surrounding Joel Embiid's alleged late arrival at practice, dismissing the notion with firm denial.

The Joel Embiid-LeBron James rumor that started circling during the Philadelphia 76ers’ preseason opener didn’t last long.

On Monday night, while the Sixers were hosting the New York Knicks, Mike Breen said on the broadcast that he’d been told Embiid had shown up “a few minutes late” to a recent on-court practice and that LeBron James had spoken to him about it when he arrived.

“I had somebody tell me before the game that they were out and ready to practice,” Breen said on the broadcast. “And Joel Embiid walked out on the court a couple of minutes late and LeBron let him hear it.”

By the next day, James had already stepped in to knock the story down.

“He ain't been late so stop the lies,” James said with a blue cap emoji, highlighting the original report in his Instagram story with the comment.

The 76ers, who haven’t even opened their 2026-27 regular season yet, are still working through the preseason schedule. They’ll face the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics in their next two exhibition games before heading back home for another matchup with Boston in Philadelphia.

It’s still unclear whether James will be on the floor for any of those games as the Sixers continue building toward a season that opens Tuesday, October 20th against Jalen Brunson and the 2026 NBA Champion New York Knicks.

James, coming off his 23rd NBA season, averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game for the Los Angeles Lakers last year while shooting 51.5 percent from the field.

Sixers Suddenly Have A Frontcourt Opening Dominick Barlow Cant Waste

Dominick Barlows latest setback comes at an awkward time for the 76ers, who are already trying to sort through a shaky frontcourt picture before the season really gets rolling. Barlow has been sidelined by a back injury and has missed recent preseason activities, but his standing on the roster has changed quickly because Philadelphias center depth has been thinned by injuries to Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti.

With Joel Embiid still anchoring the middle, the opening behind him is the one worth watching, and Barlow has at least a chance to enter that conversation if he gets healthy in time. He already showed last season that he can be a usable rotation piece, appearing in 71 games and averaging 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds, and the Sixers would clearly like to find a way to capitalize on that kind of depth rather than keep patching the spot together. Ben Simmons Is Reopening A Debate Sixers Fans Thought Was Over

Ben Simmons is back in the NBA after more than a year away, signing a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings and immediately becoming one of the more curious comeback stories of the fall. For a player whose name still carries plenty of weight in Philadelphia, the early word out of Sacramento is encouraging, with reports from Andscapes Marc J. Spears saying Simmons has been excellent in training camp and is doing enough to put himself in the conversation for a starting role.

For Sixers fans, the reaction is likely less about the Kings and more about the old debate Simmons has reopened by simply looking like himself again. Sacramento is taking a careful approach as he gets ready for his 10th NBA season, but any sign of stability or production from Simmons invites the same familiar question in Philadelphia: what might have been, and how much different could the story have looked if this version had arrived earlier? Knicks Exposed One Early Offensive Concern Fans Cant Ignore

Preseason wins do not usually change the temperature around a team, but the 76ers 120-97 victory over the Knicks at least offered a useful look at how the rotation functioned without several headline names. With Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey out, Philadelphia leaned on Jaylen Brown, who finished with 22 points, while the bench did a lot of the heavy lifting in a game that never really tightened.

New Yorks side of it was harder to ignore, because the offense never found much rhythm from the field or beyond the arc. A few Knicks reached double figures, but the overall flow was choppy enough to leave an early concern hanging over a team trying to sort out its scoring balance before the games start to count.
