As Jared McCain gears up to face the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time since his trade to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the young guard is reflecting on his journey and the welcome he's hoping for. The Thunder are riding high, aiming for their 12th consecutive victory, and McCain is ready to face his former team as part of the NBA's hottest squad.
McCain is optimistic about his reception from the Philly fans. "I'm hoping for a positive reaction," he shared.
"My friends and family keep me updated, and they're excited about the return. It should be fun."
Despite now playing for the defending champions, McCain still feels the love from Sixers fans. "Philly fans have always been great to me.
Whether I was out and about or recovering from injuries, they were supportive and encouraging," McCain said. "The messages I've received have been heartwarming, with fans saying they miss me.
I definitely have a lot of love for them."
During the Thunder's current road trip through the Eastern Conference, McCain shone brightly, scoring a season-high 26 points in a decisive win against the Brooklyn Nets.
Reflecting on the trade, McCain admitted he was initially shocked. "I had to ask twice about the trade.
I was so surprised," he recalled. "When I found out it was the Thunder, I wondered why they'd want me since they're the champions.
It's a mix of fear and excitement about the unknown. But they've been incredibly welcoming, and the team's culture is fantastic.
It's been a smooth transition, and I'm finally settled in my new place."
McCain's integration into the Thunder has been nothing short of smooth, and he's thriving in his new environment.
