Former Sixers Guard Quickly Found His Next Chance After Philly Moved On

Amidst a challenging season plagued by injuries, the Oklahoma City Thunder strategically bolster their lineup by adding high-energy guard Dalen Terry, once a promising first-round pick.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are still piecing things together while the injury list keeps growing, and now they’ve turned to another backcourt option to help steady the roster.

On Tuesday, Oklahoma City agreed to a two-year deal with Dalen Terry, giving the team its final roster spot. Terry arrives after a winding stretch that included stops with the Philadelphia 76ers and a look from the Golden State Warriors.

“G/F Dalen Terry has agreed on a two-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources tell ESPN. Terry enters his fifth NBA season after the former No. overall 18 pick spent time in Chicago and Philadelphia, and went to training camp with Golden State last month,” ESPN’s Shams Charania posted.

The move comes after the Thunder had been searching for the right addition. They had originally been expected to sign Ochai Agbaji, but that deal never came together.

Terry’s path to Oklahoma City has already featured a couple of brief chances. He started the summer on Philadelphia’s roster, then got waived to make room for LeBron James and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

“The Sixers waive Dalen Terry to clear space for LeBron James and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Terry, a former first-round pick, had a non-guaranteed contract for the upcoming season. Philadelphia must still move one additional player to create enough room for both additions,” NBA writer Jake Weinbach wrote.

He also had a shot to earn a spot on Golden State’s main roster out of camp, but that didn’t happen. Before landing with Oklahoma City, he was playing for the Warriors’ G League affiliate.

The Thunder are banking on the kind of energy Terry brings. He’s described as a high-motor guard, and the team believes he can give them useful depth as they try to keep moving forward through the injuries that have hit them early in the season.

The roster is now full, and Oklahoma City is clearly hoping this latest move pays off.

LeBron Already Feels Like A Different Fit With The Sixers

LeBron James has looked like a different kind of star alongside Tyrese Maxey, at least in the view of Bill Simmons, who believes the veteran forward seems more comfortable and more engaged with the 76ers than he did in his previous pairing with Luka Doncic in Dallas. The fit in Philadelphia has naturally drawn attention because Maxey gives the offense a different rhythm, and the roster around him includes Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid, a mix that invites immediate questions about how much higher the ceiling can go.

Simmons also framed the move as one that could give James a better path back to the NBA Finals, pointing to the way his mood and role acceptance have reportedly improved. For the Sixers, the larger issue is whether the combination of talent, coaching and roster management can keep that kind of alignment intact long enough to matter when the games tighten up. Nick Nurse Just Made The 76ers Frontcourt Wait Even Harder

Dominick Barlows start with the 76ers has been delayed before it ever really got going, with the forward still sidelined after a back injury he suffered before the preseason. He has not appeared in the 2026-2027 season, and the team has been careful not to rush him back while he works through the issue.

Nick Nurse said Barlow is seeing a specialist and has only had limited court time so far, with a re-evaluation expected soon. For a Philadelphia frontcourt already waiting on more clarity, the bigger concern is the uncertainty around when Barlow can realistically rejoin the mix, since the recovery timeline remains unsettled. Sixers Fans Should Ignore The Early Paul George Trade Panic

The first week or so of any NBA season can make a trade look smarter or shakier than it really is, and that is where the early Paul George chatter has landed for Philadelphia. Jaylen Brown has come out of the gate with the cleaner scoring and shooting numbers in the first seven games, which has only sharpened the comparison for a fan base eager to judge the deal before it has had much time to breathe.

But the larger context still matters for the Sixers, especially with LeBron James part of the trade picture and plenty of season left to sort out the fit. Georges early stretch has not matched Browns, yet it is far too soon to treat that as a final verdict on what Philadelphia got back or how the move will age over the course of the year. [Read more 🡒]
