76ers Add Former First-Round Pick After Embarrassing Collapse Against Nets

Amid growing concerns following a disappointing loss to the Nets, the 76ers quietly reshaped their depth chart with a familiar name who now has something to prove.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of a rough patch, and their latest outing against the Brooklyn Nets only added fuel to the fire. A 16-12 record might not sound the alarm just yet, but the way this one went down?

That’s another story. Philly came out flat, stayed cold, and never really found a pulse-dropping a game to a Nets team that’s been struggling to stay afloat themselves.

Tyrese Maxey, usually the team’s spark plug, had his worst performance of the season. And even with Joel Embiid doing his usual heavy lifting, it wasn’t enough to stop the slide.

But while the on-court product stumbled, the front office quietly made a move that could pay dividends down the line. The Sixers signed former first-round pick MarJon Beauchamp to a two-way contract, releasing undrafted guard Hunter Sallis to make room. It’s a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for a team looking to shore up its depth during a stretch where injuries and illness have left them scrambling for healthy bodies.

Beauchamp isn’t a stranger to the organization. He was with Philly briefly in October on an Exhibit 10 deal, but didn’t stick at the time.

Now he’s back, and while he’ll start out in the G-League, the opportunity is there. The Sixers are thin on the wing, and Beauchamp brings something they could use: size, athleticism, and a scoring touch that, when it’s clicking, can show up at all three levels.

Drafted 24th overall by the Bucks in 2022, Beauchamp came into the league with real upside. At 6’7”, he’s got the frame and tools to be a versatile contributor on both ends of the floor.

But Milwaukee’s deep rotation didn’t offer him much room to grow, and consistent playing time never materialized. That’s not uncommon for young wings on contending teams-sometimes it’s less about talent and more about timing and opportunity.

In Philadelphia, the door is cracked open. The Sixers have been so short-handed lately that veterans like Eric Gordon and Kyle Lowry were logging heavy minutes against Brooklyn.

That’s not exactly a sustainable formula. While Beauchamp isn’t expected to step into a major role right away, he represents a potential solution to a growing problem: the need for fresh legs and defensive versatility on the perimeter.

He’ll get his reps in the G-League, but don’t be surprised if he’s called up sooner rather than later-especially if the Sixers continue to deal with absences. And credit to the front office here: they’re making use of every available roster spot.

Two-way contracts can be overlooked, but Philly’s shown they know how to find value in those deals. Dominick Barlow has turned into arguably the best two-way player in the league, and Jabari Walker has quietly carved out a role as a reliable depth piece.

Now, it’s Beauchamp’s turn to show what he can bring to the table. The path won’t be easy, but the opportunity is real. And for a Sixers team that could use a spark, even a small addition like this might end up making a difference down the line.
