Penn State’s 2026-27 men’s basketball season will bring a fresh roster, a familiar challenge and a schedule packed with television windows.
The Nittany Lions are set to open the year after a 12-20 finish in 2025-26, with head coach Mike Rhoades entering his fourth season in charge. Penn State is still chasing its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2023, and this group will lean on a new-look roster that includes European flavor and transfer portal additions.
The nonconference slate gives the season an early jolt. Penn State will play Pittsburgh at The Palestra in Philadelphia on Nov. 8, then later meet Saint Joseph’s at the GIANT Center in Hershey on Dec.
- The Lions also head to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, where they’ll face Memphis on Nov. 25 and then either Wake Forest or Mississippi State on Nov.
A lot of the schedule will be easy to find on TV. Most of Penn State’s games are set for broadcast, with appearances on Big Ten Network, Peacock, FS1, ESPNU and B1G+.
The Big Ten grind begins in early December and runs deep into March. Penn State opens league play against Nebraska on Dec. 8, then travels to Illinois on Dec.
- Other home dates include Oregon on Jan.
2, Northwestern on Jan. 10, Purdue on Jan.
20, Maryland on Jan. 30, Indiana on Feb.
2, Ohio State on Feb. 6, Washington on Feb.
17, Michigan on Feb. 23 and Rutgers on March 7.
Road trips stretch across the conference map, with visits to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Rutgers, UCLA and USC. The late-season trip to the West Coast comes with a pair of long nights: UCLA on Feb. 27 and USC on March 2.
Here is Penn State’s full 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule, with times and TV information where available. Home games are listed in all caps, Big Ten games are marked with an asterisk, and all times are Eastern.

Penn State Fans Are Sending A Brutal Message At Beaver Stadium
Beaver Stadium has not felt like the same place during Penn States recent losing streak under Matt Campbell, and the empty patches have become part of the story. The reported attendance figures have been disputed by fans, but the larger point is hard to miss: after a $700 million renovation that expanded capacity, added premium seating and changed some sightlines, the building has not been drawing the kind of energy the program expects.
A lot of that frustration is aimed at athletic director Pat Kraft, whose decisions have left some supporters openly unhappy with both the coaching hire and the stadium changes. For a fan base that prides itself on making Beaver Stadium one of college footballs toughest environments, the drop in enthusiasm feels like a message as much as a problem, and it is one Penn State will have to answer before the atmosphere starts matching the investment again. Saquon Barkleys Eagles Future Suddenly Feels Bigger Than Just This Week
Saquon Barkley was back on the practice field Friday after dealing with hamstring and back injuries, and the expectation is that hell be available when the Eagles face the Commanders. Even with the recent limitations, he remains one of the teams central figures, the kind of player whose presence matters well beyond a single game plan.
Barkleys return also lands at a time when the NFL trade deadline is drawing closer, which has naturally pushed some attention beyond this weeks matchup. There has been plenty of speculation about what the Eagles might do, but so far there has been no confirmed transaction involving Barkley, leaving his immediate role clear and the longer view a little less settled. Penn States Special Teams Just Showed Why This Team Feels So Volatile
Penn States special teams were front and center against Purdue in a way that summed up the teams boom-or-bust feel. The Nittany Lions opened with a successful fake punt on their first possession, a bold call that helped set up a touchdown and showed the kind of aggression that can swing a game early.
By the second quarter, though, the same phase of the game had flipped on them when Purdue blocked a Penn State punt and turned it into a touchdown of its own. It was the kind of sequence that captures why Penn State can look so dangerous one series and so vulnerable the next, with special teams serving as both an edge and a risk. [Read more 🡒]
