Penn State Wrestling Dominates NCAA Quarterfinals with Perfect Record

Penn State Wrestling continues its unrivaled dominance, sending eight athletes to the NCAA semifinals and holding a commanding lead in the team standings.

Penn State wrestling continues to assert its dominance in the NCAA Tournament, delivering a flawless 8-0 performance in the quarterfinals at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. With the semifinals on the horizon, Cael Sanderson's squad has nine of its ten wrestlers still in contention, solidifying their commanding lead in the team standings.

The Nittany Lions showcased their prowess with technical falls from 157-pounder PJ Duke, 184-pounder Levi Haines, and 197-pounder Josh Barr, racking up crucial bonus points. They're on a mission to surpass their own team scoring record of 177, set just last year. Luke Lilledahl (125) battled through a nail-biting tie-breaker to maintain his undefeated streak this season.

All eight semifinalists have already secured All-America honors, a testament to the team's depth and skill. Braedan Davis (141) faced a tough challenge in the consolation bracket and was ultimately eliminated from the tournament.

Penn State leads the team race with 105.5 points-a tally that would have secured third place in the entire tournament last year. Impressively, they're the only team with eight semifinalists. Nebraska follows in second place with 66 points and five semifinalists, while Oklahoma State, guided by former Penn State star David Taylor, sits in third with 64 points and five athletes in the semis.

The action continues with Session 4, featuring the semifinals and wrestle-backs, kicking off at 8 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. Fans can catch the excitement on ESPN2 for overall coverage and ESPN+ for individual mat action.
