Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht is already making one thing clear: the classroom portion of college football may not be much of a factor for him this fall.
Becht, the fifth-year signal caller and son of former NFL tight end Anthony Becht, told reporters Thursday that he won’t be taking any in-person classes this semester. He already earned his undergraduate degree at Iowa State before moving on to Penn State, where he arrived along with new head coach Matt Campbell.
When asked about the classes he plans to take, Becht kept it simple: “I don’t know yet, we haven’t picked it yet.”
For a lot of college athletes, a lighter academic load during the season is nothing new. But Becht’s situation stands out because he’s now the starter at a Big Ten program with real expectations attached. He’s stepping into a Penn State role that comes with attention, pressure and the usual quarterback spotlight that follows a player around everywhere.
