Penn State May Have Found Its Next Tight End Contributor

Penn State's rising talent Finn Furmanek is turning heads with his exceptional development and leadership on the field.

Penn State’s tight end room has a familiar kind of buzz around it again, and this time Finn Furmanek is the name drawing notice.

The 6-foot-4, 251-pound redshirt junior has been an offseason storyline for the Nittany Lions, and his work in Saturday’s scrimmage earned a direct nod from offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Taylor Mouser on Monday.

“The guy in my room that I was probably the most impressed with was Finn Furmanek,” Mouser said Monday.

“He played the most reps. He was blocking really good on the ball.”

Furmanek, a former prep standout at State College Area High School, started his college career on scholarship and has spent time in Penn State tight end rooms alongside Tyler Warren, Theo Johnson, Andrew Rappleyea and now Iowa State transfer Ben Brahmer. Each of those players became a difference maker, and Furmanek is beginning to look like the next one in line.

Brahmer, who worked with Mouser at Iowa State last season, has seen the same progress this fall.

“Finn’s a hard worker, he’s a good guy,” Brahmer said.

“We always hang out a lot. He’s been blocking his ass off this fall camp. To see him go to work every day, kind of step into an older guy role, it’s been fun to watch.”

Mouser believes that growth is pointing toward a bigger workload in 2026.

“He’s a guy that’s going to play a lot of football for us, that I don’t think gets talked about enough,” added Mouser of Furmanek.

Former Penn State Standout Sees Strong Eagles Camp Cut Short

Tariq Castro-Fields had been trying to carve out a place for himself in Philadelphia training camp, but the former Penn State cornerbacks push for a roster spot has been halted by a heel injury. The Eagles placed him on injured reserve, ending his participation in camp and putting his likely 2026 season in doubt after he had been working back while competing for a spot.

Philadelphia also moved on from wide receiver Johnny Wilson with a waived/injured designation and added center Zeke Correll and wide receiver Brandon Hayes. For Penn State fans, Castro-Fields latest setback is a frustrating one, since his NFL path had been gaining traction before the injury stopped it in its tracks. [Read more 🡒]

Penn State Wrestling Just Took A Major Levi Haines Eligibility Blow

Penn State wrestling is dealing with another jolt in the aftermath of the NCAAs ongoing eligibility battles, as the Tenth Circuit granted the associations stay request in Winse v. NCAA. The ruling leaves Levi Haines, who graduated high school in 2022 and has already used all four years of eligibility, currently ineligible to compete while the case continues to play out.

Haines still has a possible path to keep fighting the decision through a temporary restraining order, but for now the uncertainty hangs over one of Penn States most decorated recent wrestlers. No matter how the legal process unfolds ahead of the 2026-27 season, Haines already has a rsum built around two national titles and four All-America honors in Happy Valley. [Read more 🡒]
